About to set of on a solo journey into the depths of Wigan - wish me luck! Good Luck !!! at least you don't have to take any notice of the "Here be Dragons" there .......
They got the hell out of the place years ago
Acording to quite a few locals, so has the water further down the locks!

Can you get the flight crew to sort it out?
As for the flight I did it once in 2009. Bought a boat which was at bottom of flight and needed to move it to Botany Bay for the crane.
Anyway I went against local advice and left in the afternoon and only got half way. Yes the scrotes did turn up and clamber all over the boat. I motored into an empty lock chamber and just stayed there till their attention span limits kicked in. Then moored offside by some industrial bits for the night.
Not a nice place as I remember it. The next day the boat arrived in Wargrave near Henley on a Tuckey's truck. What a change of scenery !

The flight is much improved in the last twelve years ... lots of the industrial wasteland canal side is housing now, and the towpath seems much busier with cheerful foot traffic. You can encounter 'yoof' issues anywhere, but the flight like many places on the system, is a friendlier spot than it used to be. Hard work (easier going down of course) but you'll enjoy it I'm sure Rog

The first time we came down a woman had been winding one of those chain gate openers, let the handle slip while under tension. Broke her jaw! Ouch!

BW used to unlock at first light and lock up at dusk then.
Two of us no, other boats on the flight, no vollies. My sister at the helm and me working the locks me at 66 and my sister ..... a little older (ahem)
We finished up at Bamfurlong that evening ....... and I was totally jiggered by then. By heck some of those gates were sods !!! but felt a hell of a sense of achievement
Shapfell at the top of the flight waiting for the off

I swear to God, I'm going to light the stove if it doesn't warm up a bit.

Just been out putting third coat on coach lines ... doors open and 18 degrees in the boat.
I'm in shorts and t shirt ... suspect after my shower it may be jeans.
Not the finest August Bank Holiday I can remember, but it is dry.

It's like Chester zoo in Barmouth today. A bit more civilised out at sea but a stiff easterly kicked up a largish chop, got a bit of a soaking on the kayak.

But chilly down in the southeast. Not terrible but definitely not warm.
Quite like this arrangement of having the children on the boat for fun weekends. Seems to be quite a good solution as it allows me to generally maintain a social distance while being reasonably responsible.
They really like it. I have been instructed to sort out electric propulsion for the little Red Herring canoe as it will be easier to use like that. I do have a small Minn Kota which can be arranged onto the back of it nice and tidy then APOS steering like I have on the yellow canoe and a PWM speed controller.
That would be nice for the younger of the offspring units whereas her older sister wants a paddle kayak. Which can be sorted.

Retired at the half way moorings, the last 8 locks can wait until tomorrow, nackered... - the plus side is that there is a KFC a few hundred yards away!
