Had a pleasant meal with friends at the Admiral Nelson, Braunston. Pleasant pub and enjoyed our food ... like many places at the moment, the menu was quite restricted but lovely service ... and I didn't get told off this time @ianali (you see I was right to blame you ) Got a third coat on the second side coach lines today so peeling the masking tape in the morning ... always nerve-racking. Scallop corners to be done and then the darker green borders and the whole thing is finished Rog

We've chugged into Coventry Basin - I don't think we'll be in a rush to come back... what a boring uninspiring journey in. Rats scurrying around in daylight, and on arrival to the allocated mooring, I find an Art boat in 'my space' - that's not sure where it should be but IS here until 14th of Sept.
Anyway - we took another empty space and awaited the knock on the door of the poor soul who might (or might not) have booked where we ended up. I did have a chat with CRT and they said "whilst it appears the art boat IS in the wrong place, we don't have access to the booking system to see if anyone else is booked into where you are" - "if someone turns up, can you ask some other boats to shift up so they can have the space you are in or direct them to a gap big enough?".
All done with good grace of course but a bit farcical as usual .
The only bright light was a lady volunteer wandering around from the weighbridge "engaging" with folks - as I sipped my gin it became apparent her real job is Sally Army... clearly we are not compatible but she was nice and engaging enough.
My alternator is still not doing what it should - it does ok first thing, then refuses to chuck out enough power to be useful later in the day. grrr. I looked at screw fix (local) for an emergency genny but "supply issues" mean none available. I blame the truckdrivers with covid.

www.generatorsonlineltd.co.uk are in Coventry but the least expensive option is Β£350-ish and I doubt it's the 'buy now return in a bit' service you may be hoping for. Your alternator works fine when the battery is very low but not so much when it's maybe half full? Are there any settings to mess with? Anyway this mob are within walking distance. www.sacweb.co.uk

Cross the bridge over the byapss and there is an exchange and mart, you could easily carry the genny back from there. As above, www.sacweb.co.uk they recon starters and alternators, took mine there a couple of years ago and i think Vince has used them also, its only a 20 minute walk from where you are. If you need a lift hit me up. That art boat was there when i went down a few weeks ago, also moored where i booked, we moored next to the swing bridge and didn't get any grief. Dont try looking for a rubbish bin either, there are none till hawkesbury. If you really want electric, look for the little black bollards next to the swing bridge, one of them i believe might be open and contain a 240v socket, so i hear!

Well today has been one of procrastination which led to lazyituss. This mornings decision was what to do about the Trentham lock stoppage (a few days away but once again CRT seemed to be struggling to fix it) - carry on as planned, divert at Middlewich, or await today's update - decided to wait. By the time I heard the lock was fixed I was well into rest day mode. Never mind forecast looks good for the week ahead.

I've spent over an hour locked in a bathroom...... My son, who doesn't clock that some things do need repairing left the door with only one handle.... I cooeeeeeedddddd and hammered on the door, tried(and failed) to force it open, broke daughters manicure set trying to force the whojeemefop to move... FINALLY 6 year old grand daughter arrives and opens it(oh yes this has apparently happened many times)... Yes I heard you she said but I was watching a good telly programme.......... ATM she's dropped down the list of 'favoured grand child).... However I imagine Iggy would have done the same and the oldest one would have had a panic attack and bin no help whatsoever.

Here's my weekly round-up of news from the throbbing metropolis of Stretton-under-Fosse. Just finished my second week back at work and I'm bored with it already. It really is just a means to an end. I've done nine days and I work on the basis of earning Β£100 a day after stoppages, meaning so far three days have paid Farmer Don for the mooring and I've earned half the cost of the new motorcycle. I need to do another week and one day then it's paid for. Then two days to pay for the CBT for myself and my son in October, then I can start building up savings for the 2022 cruising season. There is much debate about toilet types, cassette or pump-out etc and I believe some folk even shit in a cardboard box. But I heard about an exciting new development in sanitary hardware this week, the macerator fish toilet. I don't know how they work, presumably you keep some fish in the holding tank and they gobble up the No 2s, then you replace them in the canal and get some new ones when they're full? I will have to look into this. Some strange developments on Facebook. One of my oldest Facebook friends is a girl who I shall refer to as "R". I've never met her, she comes from the very early days of Facebook when you would add a friend simply on the basis that you played online Scrabble with them and for the novelty of having a virtual friend, especially as I'm a bit of a Billy-no-mates anyway. Her posts occasionally appear on my newsfeed and so I've watched as she graduated from University, started work, had boyfriends and break ups, settled down with a long-term partner, bought a house, had a child, split up etc etc etc. She is very beautiful and probably in her mid-to-late 30s now. I rarely posted anything on her timeline, just the very occasional thing such as when she visited a steam railway I told her an anecdote about an acquaintance of mine and then out of the blue last weekend I got a message asking me how I was followed by this exchange. So I'm thinking "WTF? Is she coming on at me?" I'm not entirely sure where to go with this. I'm also not quite sure why she would seek sanctuary with someone old enough to be her Dad. I can only imagine she's been looking at my pics, and my lustrous mop of boyish chestnut hair has made her go weak at the knees. What should I do?
