This will be the quietest May bank horrorday on the River for quite some time.
Lots of red boards still out. Not huge volumes but enough to keep the reds out.

Excellent couple of days at The Shroppie Fly serving up wonderful pints of Butty Bach, plus some good walks with good weather! Onwards to the next destination now.👍

On our way before 8am but the top pound was empty so had to run some water down until I could squeeze through. In the second lock it became clear where the water was going as the cill was leaking quite badly. The sun came out gloriously and we saw hares, roe deer, kites and buzzards as we cruised. It's amazing how it all comes back to you as it unfolds. A walk into Stony Stratford next. By the way Admiral the Tove was entirely benign and peaceful 👍🏻 Rog

Been a lovely sunny day here. Both the machine polisher and the special Russian polish arrived today. I wasn't expecting much from the polisher as it was only £15 but I'd have to admit it's a pretty handy bit of kit. So I machine polished the side facing the mooring and I'll buff that up and wax it tomorrow, I probably don't wax the paintwork nearly often enough, should be four times a year really and I normally manage twice at most.
Also got a coat of gloss on the boat pole and hook, will give that a second coat tomorrow. It's that time of year for a bit of tidying up.

Just some thoughts to add to the above. I'm a million miles away from being in the Shiny Boat Brigade and all work I do on the brightwork is done purely for preventative maintenance reasons.
Of course it's everybody's right to do what they want with their own boat but I always think it's a bit sad to see an otherwise decent looking boat which is obviously a liveaboard with huge, football-sized rust patches all over it. I always think "That would have started out as a tiny rust spot, if only he'd scraped that off with an old screwdriver, put a dab of Kurust and a bit of primer on it, maybe spent an hour and a couple of quid putting a coat of wax on it once a year, that would still be a good-looking boat".
Or that green mould you see all over boats. Ten minutes with a pot scourer and a bottle of Cif would get rid of that. Often, even the windows are covered in it and I think "Well, for the sake of five minutes work the owner could have massively more light inside the boat for free".
Nowt as queer as folk I suppose.

My Boats always look a bit tired but I am not keen on mildew. Always clean that off and also best not to have much rust.
One of the vessels is BRG painted which I have not touched in 15 yars of ownership. It looks okay.
