Very hot here at the gliding club, 24 degrees. Dull morning so I decided to take a friend to Plockton in the Europa for breakfast. It is only about 35 mins but for some unknown reason I have never done the trip. Plockton is very picturesque and tranquil. Although the airstrip is a 20 min walk from the village, there is a takeaway place “From the croft” about 50 yds from the airstrip. They sell e.g. bacon and egg rolls but the difference is that it is bacon from their own pigs, eggs from their own hens. Rather nice. We did walk into town for the exercise, but no seals in sight so I felt swizzed. On the way back went via friends house in Kinlochewe, wow what a lot of jagged granite around there! I like the picture with the glimpse of the sea with mountains behind, looks like home. Careful though. Posting about things not directly related to boating might be considered 'boring' by our forum's anti-conversation officer, who has few, if any, interests of his own.

It's a great photo Telemachus ... looks like an old John Player Special advert 😁 It's your good mate Dunk's birthday today by the way ... no point me putting up birthday wishes to him, but he may take it from you ... maybe. Rog

Isle of Skye behind, I think that is the Cuillins in the background just left of the barn thing. One of my sisters lives an hour west of Aberdeen, small town called Alford. She takes all her holidays in and around the islands. She knows me well and insists I would love it up there. I'm sure she's right. It's just such a long way. Maybe one day.

Alford which is of course pronounced Afford (emphasis on the first part). It is very rural round there but fairly flat. In the good old days you could have flown up to Aberdeen on Flybe from eg Birmingham for not very much. Now it is a long drive but on the other hand, we do that drive every time we visit the boat, so it is mostly just an attitude of mind thing.

Work finished for the week, pretty much a standard week with nothing out of the ordinary happening.
Mark dropped my coal off today, the last few years I've bought a tonne but this time I still had 14 bags left over from last year so just bought half-a-tonne.
Going to turn the boat tomorrow, think one of the blokes from work is coming along for the ride. Will then start polishing the other side and re-painting the coachline.
Also rust converting and re-treating the stern deck once I've worked out what it is painted with, looks to be sand or grit mixed with bitumen to form a thick paste.

Didn't turn the boat today, instead I put some Hammerite Satin Black paint on the stern deck. Would anyone care to suggest how long I should leave it on there for?

At least 3 weeks, before you walk on it.

At least 3 weeks, before you walk on it. On 31 August 2017 at 1923 hrs Clinton Cunt said : Well the engine is out now. Many thanks to Mr Stabby who hauled the boat to the lock while I made a futile effort to steer it with my pole, due to the silt being about 3 feet deep. The yard had the engine out in 2 minutes, very impressive. A fork lift truck and chains, bit of manouvering past the exhaust, it was out, and now is on my stern deck. The latest frustration is that there are no timing marks on the crankshaft pulley. It never rains, it pours. How's the memory doing, eh, Clinton, . . any improvement yet ?

Just don't make it too glossy Mr StabbyI can see you sliding off in the rain when you finally get cruising. Model railway exhibition the weekend of 8 June in MK apparently ... looked like yours and Sam's sort of thing. Rog

Model railway exhibition the weekend of 8 June in MK apparently ... looked like yours and Sam's sort of thing. Rog There are rubber decking mats to go back on yet so it won't be slippery. The MK thing sounds good but unlikely to happen, Sam completes purchase of his house on Friday and it needs a lot of work before he and his partner can move in, plus it's the Peak District ride-out the following weekend and even that is looking unlikely for him for the aforementioned reason although Charlie says he's coming regardless. It's funny how you notice things more in a photo than you do in the field, must give that counter a good scrub up and polish tomorrow, re-paint the mushrooms etc.
