Semi-busy at the farm today. Put a second coat of paint on the stern mooring mushrooms and the tiller plate. Ground and sanded down some rust scabs on the gunwale which I then treated with Kurust. Then a coat of satin black enamel paint. Will do a second coat tomorrow. Started prepping the roof for a re-paint. Will do some more tomorrow and Monday. Paint for this will cost £55 but that's for five litres which should be enough for three coats. Potato boat is looking better than it ever has in the ten years I've owned it (at least on the side facing the mooring, the other side still looks a bit shabby but I'll get that sorted out as soon as I can turn the boat around). Rain forecast for tomorrow and Monday though and I probably won't turn around until we have more benign weather. There's no rush. Bit of a stand-off with management going on at work at the moment, and I won't back down. I have total support on the ground but might be looking for a new job next week. Or maybe go cruising.

Today I finally figured out how to make Quake (which is an old DOS-based FPS game) work on Windows 10 and then, for an encore, I made all the later add-on additional levels to work with it as well. There's not a lot on the net about this, since the game dates from 1996, and in computer terms this is pre-historic. I was then reminded that I am crap at computer games. Ah well.

I used to love playing Transport Tycoon Deluxe which was DOS based. Apparently it can be run on non-DOS systems with some modifications but these are too techy for me to understand. I had a Hornby sim at one time but it took massive amounts (at the time) of memory plus a kicking graphics card to make it run. It was fun though, you could theoretically build the entire UK rail system. Virtually. The thing you would need is a freeware prog called DOSBox which is an emulator for non-DOS based versions of Windows (anything after Win97). Then you have to write a .conf file which is fairly easy if you remember anything about DOS syntax. Also there's a bit of command-line ting specific to DOSBox but it's not hard. But if the original prog is on floppy disks that's a bit of a sticking point these days...💋

Cold and rainy today, stove lit. Only silver lining is that a wet boat roof made it a bit easier to scrub with kitchen degreaser. Will order the paint this week and hopefully make a start on the paintwork next weekend.

Not too bad at Walton on Thames. Was a bit wet last night but nothing shocking. Chilly but not cold enough for the fire. Moored opposite one of my favourite Boats on the River. Nice motorcruiser

Dry as we set off but heavy short showers as we entered locks.
Still warm however, and sunny between the showers.
The area between Nash Mill lock and Red Lion lock (although C&RT have signed them Nash Mill 1 and 2) looks very smart now the burnt out wreck of a factory on the offside has transformed into very posh looking apartments.
Amazing how that changes the feel of an area.

If you say so ... appeared exactly the same to me although perhaps a little more expensive.
Good value though.

Sun came out this afternoon so I started sanding down the boat roof but then my detail sander went "Bang!" and all the magic smoke came out of it. I can never get that stuff to go back in. It wasn't entirely unexpected to be fair and it has lasted ages. So I've ordered a new one on ebay and everything else I need to do the roof.
