Much better day than the forecast, and the morning promised.
The sun came out by noon so we headed off down the Aylesbury.
Very pleasant cruise, loads of red kites and the bird song was fabulous.
We had a few light showers, and one really heavy one as we were mooring, but warm (too warm for rain coats).
Lots of thick weed down the Aylesbury end ... a real pain.

Its been raining. Have been in the floating electric beer drinking platform and got wet despite having a brolly. Fire now lit. Really cold and damp down here.

Another week at work finished. Been another busy week, eight-and-a-half hours overtime plus I did the first night-out in a truck I've done for five years and only the second one I've done since I moved onto the boat. Apparently there's a trip to the Republic of Ireland being planned and I may or may not be asked to do it. If I'm asked then I will as I've never been to ROI. Perusing "Buzzing". the excellent bi-monthly magazine of the National Autocycle and Cyclemotor Club, of which I am a member, I come across this rather charming 1958 advert for a British-built, 65cc, four-stroke, OHV-engined motor scooter. Uniquely among motorised vehicles it was exempt from all licensing and testing requirements. It did have a reputation for emitting a lot of hot air and if carelessly secured by the owner it had a tendency to set off down the road on its own, leaving a trail of damaged vehicles and street furniture in its wake.

I also googled it and it is genuine.
In other news I am beginning to change my attitude towards willow as a firewood.
It seems to be fine when very dry. I cut a bit yesterday and its on the fire now. Nice and slow burning no problem.
I imagine the flue will need cleaning but as I do not envisage needing to run the fire much during July it probably won't be an issue. Also of course my flue disconnects into two pieces in a couple of seconds and can be taken outside for cleaning. A standard ISO beer can is exactly the same outside diameter as the inside of the flue so can be rammed down it with a wooden pole of some sort for cleaning.
works a treat.

There was another uk scooter - the Triumph Tina. I found a front mudguard from one in 1972 in a motorbike scrapyard that I fitted on my sidecar. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triumph_Tina

Stopped raining around 3pm and it's been windy but mostly sunny ... totally different day (and month π) to this morning.
Did think about the fire around noon as it felt like November.
So glad we waited ... plenty warm enough now π

Just arrived at the boat, pissing with rain in Aberdeen and quite nice and sunny in Tamworth. Flower tubs now loaded onto the roof, although they look slightly unhappy after a day crammed in the car boot. Iβm sure they will recover soon.

Had the offsprings on the saloon launch today. Just the one night this time back home tomorrow so not too arduous. We had a nice little cruise. Quite a bit of rain last night so the River has a fair bit of land water. Nothing shocking but noticeable.
Worse things happen at sea.

Are you still hoping for the Lancaster Telemachus or have you come up with a plan B ? Rog I think the Lancaster is unlikely. Apparently they are allowing boats onto the lanky, but the word from the computer girl is there may be no passages down from the lanky to the L&L THIS YEAR! At first I thought that was because all the passages were booked for the year, but now I think they actually mean no boats at all going back for the rest of the year. Not quite sure why, Iβll have to ask Dunkers. There is another update on 10th and we can set out towards the grim north, but if the RL seems unlikely then we will detour up the Caldon, up the Makker before picking up Jeffβs parents somewhere around the middlewich branch / Nantwich. They have already booked train tickets to Lancaster for 25th but they can stay on the train another stop or two to Crewe and then get a short taxi ride to wherever we are. Then maybe weβll take a trip up the Llangollen, havenβt done that since 2012, before dropping them off near Crewe again. Did I mention that Jeff had a bad bicycle accident a couple of weeks ago, it seemed like heβd broken some ribs and was in a lot of pain. He wouldnβt go to A&E. After a week of getting better he had a relapse last Sunday and was in a lot of pain so I insisted he went to A&E on Monday morning. Cut a long story short after 7 hours in A&E, they X-rayed him, declared nothing broken just torn muscles and soft tissue damage, and sent him home. But being such nice people they sent him home with a lovely present, a nice dose of Covid. Tested positive on Wednesday but fortunately not too bad, although coughing is contra-indicated when you have a knackered chest! So it looks like muggins will have to do all the locks and Iβm not even sure he can drive the boat yet. Where are all the volockies when you need them?

Bugger ... and chest soft tissue injuries can be slow fixers too.
You'll have to relax and take things very slow and easy.
Hope he's fighting fit very soon.

Best wishes to Jeff - cracked a rib myself last year which makes boating a bit challenging and know what he's going through - minus the hospital visit.
Please keep us updated on your itinerary/progress as I am currently in your preferred vicinity and would appreciate advance warning as to which waterpoint to avoid, just in case.
