Didnβt get very far, just to Rugeley. Moored next to Aquarat and had a good chat. Itβs a shame he doesnβt post here anymore. On the other hand, he is probably very sensible! Not everyone wants to be in the cesspit of god's mistakes. I think I shall return to the country estate, streamline the fleet and get a job. Get a job and sell a boat, steady on.

It seems that this may be the original Flammant Rose yot which belonged to Edith Piaf. Not interesting because she was a celeb but interesting because these people get loads of money and can have unusual Boats. Interesting article. Photo taken just before it was annihilated by a UFO.

Ended up with a bloomin' great big Ford Kuga rather than a Fiesta.
Modern cars are so big !
It's fine and full of gadgets, which don't really impress me.
Home on Β£32 of petrol, so pretty economical, and always fun to surprise family members with a visit.

Moored up in Evesham. Rather bizarre here. Have a commodore instructing us on mooring up, correctly and in the right berth. Half a dozen biggish white cruisers. Dozen or so old boats with RN engine things, very noisy. Than a scattering of normal narrowboaters. Also a lovely old Dutch barge that I want. The ladies and gents in the plastic cruisers are sat aloof, gin in hand. Ten yards away the Poles are sat on benches, lager cans in hand. The contrast is interesting, as may the night ahead be.

We're due at an Italian restaurant at 7pm in Doncaster for a 70th birthday bash, so an interesting if alcohol free evening (I'll have a whisky once home) and then an early start to drive back.
We'd like to shop back at Aylesbury whilst we have the car (hand it back at 11am) so 6am start at the latest.

Work finished for another week. Went to work on the Vespa three times this week, so five times in the last fortnight. I need to average 3.08 times per week to hit my target of using it 40 times before the end of September so I'm a bit behind, although in fairness the weather hasn't been great some days. Rather irritatingly a vital part of the centre stand has sheared off, by coincidence and a stroke of luck I bought and fitted a side stand only last weekend but a centre stand is a "must-have" so one of the other boaters is going to help me to remove it and weld it up at the weekend as I'm too mean to spend Β£70-odd on a new one. Examining the broken-off bit I'd say that it wasn't welded up very well in the first place, and much of the welding failed a long time ago. If I had the time, I'd just leave both parts on the stern deck for three weeks and let it sort itself out.

Just finished watching the last (4th) episode of βThe night callerβ on Ch5. Very good, Iβd recommend it. Sean Pertwee is always very good but I didnβt have much time for Robert Glenister, but he is very good in this.

Left home at 5.30am.
Now having coffee at Watford Gap before the last hour's drive.
Great to see everyone but a tiring 48 hours.

Off to Hawkesbury Junction to empty out the cassette in a bit. Cheeky fuckers at Rose Narrowboats charge Β£5 to use their Elsan point now. Just waiting for a text from Halfords at Nuneaton to let me know my click and collect order is ready so I can tie the two things together. Black paint for the centre stand. Then while I'm in Nuneaton I'll visit the Nepalese grocery for some Mogu Mogu and bags of imported Indian potato chips, which come in weird and wonderful flavours.
I've only just started visiting Nuneaton but I really like the shopping there. Frank Parker, the butchers, do awesome meat pies.
Then Aldi and Morrisons, then back here to try to sort out the centre stand on the Vespa. I've just given the shaft a blast of WD40 but I'm expecting a struggle to get it off.
