Are you still hoping for the Lancaster Telemachus or have you come up with a plan B ? Rog I think the Lancaster is unlikely. Apparently they are allowing boats onto the lanky, but the word from the computer girl is there may be no passages down from the lanky to the L&L THIS YEAR! At first I thought that was because all the passages were booked for the year, but now I think they actually mean no boats at all going back for the rest of the year. Not quite sure why, I’ll have to ask Dunkers. There is another update on 10th and we can set out towards the grim north, but if the RL seems unlikely then we will detour up the Caldon, up the Makker before picking up Jeff’s parents somewhere around the middlewich branch / Nantwich. They have already booked train tickets to Lancaster for 25th but they can stay on the train another stop or two to Crewe and then get a short taxi ride to wherever we are. Then maybe we’ll take a trip up the Llangollen, haven’t done that since 2012, before dropping them off near Crewe again. Good plan, . . if you want to get to know what's really behind the nonsensical tripe the C&RT is publishing to try to justify the unnecessary closure to navigation of threequarters of a mile of canalised semi-tidal drainage ditch in Lancashire, . . and the real reasons behind them doing it. The embarrassing (for C&RT) truth was exposed last week when these incompetent clowns walked straight into a great big hole that had been specially dug for them. C&RT received a written request for Ribble Link navigational and pilotage info and details relating to tide heights, dredged depths, and bridge clearance heights reduced to ODN (and local Chart Datum), . . all of which are absolutely essential to making an informed decision as to whether or not the short semi-tidal section of Savick Brook is safely and/or practically navigable/useable whilst the Half-Tide Gate/Barrier is out of commission. On top of knowledge gained from operating commercial vessels on the rivers Douglas and Ribble from nearly sixty years ago - bagged chemicals ex-Preston Docks for ICI at Anderton, and despite the above mentioned request to the C&RT, I did in fact already have all the necessary up to date pilotage figures and info relating to the so-called Ribble Link that I was asking the unfit for purpose C&RT clowns to provide. I've been in possession of all this info and data for quite some time. The C&RT response, at one and the same time, both useless and remarkably enlightening as it was, was insistent that no such information or figures were relevant, useful, or even available. As a navigation authority, they'd do better to stick to tasks such as running park boating lakes, or selling ice-creams from a van on street corners.

I've just given the shaft a blast of WD40 but I'm expecting a struggle to get it off. Someone will be along shortly to explain how to do it.

Until after the womens Winbledon final would be my advice to you. Beware elbow strain? Pulling a shaft with one hand can be awkward. Though perhaps not for a tennis aficionado.

Did all my planned errands this morning then back to the mooring. We managed to get the centre stand off without too much drama and this will hopefully be welded up tomorrow. If Stu's welder isn't up to it then he'll get a buddy of his to do it in the week. Because the exhaust had to come off to get the centre stand bolt out, I gave that half-a-dozen coats of very high temperature paint and polished the heat shield, looks good as new. Will paint the centre stand too before that gets re-fitted.

Grove lock is shut ... bugger !
My brother's just booked accommodation at Leighton Buzzard next weekend to spend a few days with us, and we can't get there at present.
Hopefully an update on Monday and a fix during the week 🤞🤞

I remember when it was a lock house and a BW depot. Not been there for 14 yars but I have a nasty feeling there might be a marina in the field just above the lock. All rather shocking !

Never been back inside the Grove after my first visit.
BH Monday, my first hire trip with a lady friend, we moored at Slapton and walked up to the pub, no food served on BHs, we walked back to the Grove, arrived at 5 to 9, got told 'chef says no more orders', no amount of pleading changed anything. Walked into Leighton, got a curry and a taxi back to Slapton and the boat... (along with a bit of grief from the lady friend for my poor planning!).
Woke up in the morning to find the boat leaning over and the pound drained...

Golly I bet the goons at CRT are feeling very foolish now. Well done on your brilliantly executed sting that tragically concerns absolutely no-one at all.
