It is necessary, as a matter of some urgency, to trace and contact the recent buyer of a boat named 'March Hare' (C&RT Index No 68691). Until last week the boat was held in storage on farmland at Dodleston, near Chester. The farmland is owned by the Proprietor and Managing Director, Brian Clarke, of a company trading as Commercial Boat Services.
Commercial Boat Services were instructed by the Canal & River Trust, subject to its powers under Section 8 of the British Waterways Act 1983, to remove 'March Hare' from the Kennet & Avon on 11 May 2023, and hold it in storage pending the resolution of a Pleasure Boat Licensing dispute with the boat's owner, Mr George Ward.
Commercial Boat Services have no right or lawful authority to sell 'March Hare', and the unauthorised sale of the boat last week amounts to theft under the applicable relevant Sections of the Theft Act 1968.
Commercial Boat Services were given until close of business on Monday 5 August 2024 to resolve this matter by way of formally cancelling the sale, and making proposals for appropriate restitution to the owner of 'March Hare', after which time in the absence of any such action on the part of Commercial Boat Services, last week's sale of 'March Hare' became a matter to be reported to the Police as theft.

Made it up the Wilmcote flight. Volunteers were awesome today. Now having some medicine to ease my throat 😊 Awesome volunteers … hmmm, surely some mistake. Although I suppose if you are feeling ill fair enough. Actually we had an interesting volunteer today at Penkridge lock, I think he was mending something but came over for a chat. He said his dad had started a hire business at Gailey back in the year dot and he had grown up in a boatyard. He was probably around 70 I’d guess. Anyway he said a few interesting things, first of all “the traditional boatmen wouldn’t have taken too kindly to all those flower on the roof”. “oh why not, too much tat for a working boat?”. “No, the only time they had flowers on the roof was when they were carrying a dead body!”. “Aha!” says I, “Maybe we have a dead body on board?” Then he asked if I knew the significance of the sun and moon on our bow. I didn’t. He said sun and moon means dawn to dusk operations. Whereas 2 suns means 24hr operations. Not sure if that is the right way round, but that’s what he said. If only there was a traditional boatman on this forum who could give a sensible answer. So not all volunteers are toonsers who have done a week’s course and think they know it all!

The volunteers today were pretty well perfect. Did just enough to help the flow, without getting in the way.

But my point about the “70” was more to show that the hire company his dad set up was one of the original ones, presumably set up in the 1950s or 60s.

Another week at Slam Transport over and done with although a short week as I only worked two days due to the boys' visit. Not much planned for the weekend although I'll tidy up the Scoopy a bit. The clutch is snatching a bit which suggests to me that the variator rollers have flat-spotted so I'll get the transmission cover off and examine both the clutch and variator. Going to take all three mopeds to the Brinklow Village Fair in a fortnight's time and I think Sam may bring his Deluxe. The Lancaster is going to do a flypast again, that was awesome last time. Everyone on the mooring says the Scoopy looks fantastic.

Yes, four coats of gloss-finish acrylic lacquer. Also the base coat of stickers were stuck on from the bottom upwards so the one above overlaps it, a bit like roof tiles, which will stop water ingress to a degree. But the beauty of stickerbombing is that if any of it becomes damaged, you can just stick more stickers over it.

I think I'll stick to plain old black on my Himalayan though, for now.
