Pop rivets are cool because they are made to be used with a precise drill size which would likely help things end up watertight.

Yes I have these. I am actually considering cutting a square out of the bottom and making an aluminium pad for the pod motor and mounting it from inside. That section of the Boat is bulkheaded so it won't sink anyway. Its a bit of a heavy idea and could go wrong but may have some potential.

If the aluminium pad itself was then mounted on a rubber gasket it might all bolt down nicely from above rather than having to get under it.
This would also have the advantage of losing the split parts of the GRP hull BUT its a serious modification.
Also the pod might be a bit loud which could be upsetting.

This is a very interesting option actually because it would provide a weed hatch each side of the pod motor. That could be the answer ! Thank You for alerting me to this. Hole saw. Cut out split GRP then rivet down the screw on hatch. What an interesting idea! Pod motor bolted in the middle. This is looking seriously interesting. I had wondered how to deal with the prop fouling on the pod motor. This is the answer isn't it. Even with an open hole that compartment will only get a few inches of water in it which a bilge pump would clear pretty fast.

Now we're getting somewhere.

Its just whether those screw in hatches are actually sealed or not.

Anyway today's job is to clean up the Honda 8 and see if there is any chance of getting it going.
This informs the decisions about how to proceed because if it is toast the story changes.

Oh that's nice.
Plugs out and it turns over lovely on the starter motor. Spat out a small amount of water from the bores but the lube oil seems clean. I'll dump a little bit of oil in the bores and give it a whizz.
Interesting situation. I would not be surprised if the carb will be a problem. Thats what normally goes wrong on these.
Anyway some mild progress its not scrap.

Carb bowl is dry. Bit of breakfast then I shall get the the tank from the other one, put a bucket of water on the lower unit and give it a go. It might work !!

If it doesn't start you could always give it a small dose of 'sniff' (easy start) through the air intake. If it runs you'll have eliminated any compression or ignition issues and narrowed it down to the carb, or fuel supply to the carb. I'm not sure how easy it is to access carbs on outboards but switching out the jets with a rebuild kit was a simple enough task on a 2 stroke motor bike I had, also a 2 stroke strimmer.

On 12 Aug 2024 at 5:16pm Mr Stabby said: . . . I don't live on the mooring. I live in a house in Kent where I pay Council Tax and am on the electoral register. - and - later on 12 Aug 2024 at 8:35pm Mr Stabby also said: . . . as thick as two short planks. How I live is completely, totally legal in every aspect. Unlike some here, I fully understand the Law and do not think that different interpretations of it apply to me. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ It's evident from the above quotes and his 'selfie' photograph (reproduced below), the extent to which moronic psychopath Vince 'Shit-for-Brains' Coventon does actually 'understand' any part or any aspect of the Law, in general or in particular, . . or the likelihood of his living a life that's - quote - ". . completely, totally legal in every aspect". Warwickshire Police appear to have allowed themselves to be taken in and led up the garden path by Coventon's post (quoted above) in which he states that he lives in Kent. They say their enquiries now extend to looking into this man's record and background, covering employment, addresses, and locations, past and present, . . even boatyards and marinas. To this end, and despite the Police officers supposedly assigned to investigating the wide range of internet/on-line offences committed by him being based at Newbold Road Police Station, Rugby, CV21 2DH, . . no more than 10 to 15 minutes drive from the residential boat moorings at Colehurst Farm, CV23 0PT, near Rugby, where this moronic psychopath has lived on a (uninsured) boat that he doesn't own for the past 9 years, . . the Police have, in reality, so far done little more than to expend time and resources in pursuing enquiries that extend to other Police forces, the DVLA, the DWP, local authorities, the Canal & River Trust, employers and mooring providers in the Rugby area, and ProBoards, the hosts of this Forum. *

On Aug 16, 2024 at 7:51pm Mr Stabby said: Warwickshire Police have spent nearly two years investigating convicted thief and child sex offender Tony Dunkley's complaint that I had gained unauthorised access to the Police National Computer and they still apparently haven't finished. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ But "they" - Warwickshire Police - do appear to be making some sort of progress, . . if it's only working on concocting some nonsense excuses that sound like perfectly reasonable grounds for not pursuing any action against someone who has committed multiple fully documented and recorded offences under the Malicious Communications Act 1988, the Protection from Harassment Act 1997, and the Online Safety Act 2023. On Thursday of last week, 22 Aug 2024, Inspector 2692 Johnson - clearly a rising star within Warwickshire Police - wrote to me complaining that, against Police advice, I had continued to engage and "converse" with Vincent 'Mr Stabby' Coventon on this forum, and because I had - quote - "posted his personal details on a public message board, breaching article 8 of the European Human Rights Act." I had "compromised" the case against him, making it impossible for the Police to proceed with a prosecution. *

Roast & Raddish cafe in the yard of the Horseshoe pub at Stoke Golding is terrific. Well worth a visit and the cakes are fabulous. Highly recommended 👌🏻 Do a full menu as well as home made cakes. Rog
