If it doesn't start you could always give it a small dose of 'sniff' (easy start) through the air intake. If it runs you'll have eliminated any compression or ignition issues and narrowed it down to the carb, or fuel supply to the carb. I'm not sure how easy it is to access carbs on outboards but switching out the jets with a rebuild kit was a simple enough task on a 2 stroke motor bike I had, also a 2 stroke strimmer. Yes its an idea. Predictably the fuel connector is different to the other outboard. I think perhaps a spray into the carb may indeed be an option once I have got the right fuel connector if it does not work.

If it doesn't start you could always give it a small dose of 'sniff' Well that was interesting ! Only accelerant I have is this stuff can't see it being worse than easy start. Engine started up and ran beautifully pumping water. Just for a second. I did also connect the fuel but it would not go through the carb. Fuel pump of is next job then carb off and a good clean up. ENGINE WORKS in terms of compression and spark/timing. Good start !

Right. Carb came off easily enough. Dirt and water cleared back on. Engine now running Not too bad ! In a bucket so can't run if for long.

Drained the sump and there was in fact plenty of water. I will slosh some Diesel through the sump then do a change.
Engine sounded marvellous but not a lot of water so will drop the lower unit and check the impeller.

I was wrong.
It is not an 8hp it is a 9.9hp. Bigger engine.
It really did sound nice. Very quiet even with the lid off.

Assuming the engine is a 4 stroke you've landed yourself a real bargain there. A new 10hp outboard is £2-2.5K.

Second hand its probably about £500 in running order. So yes a good bargain as there was also a Boat. To be fair the Boat itself has very little value except to me as I really like these particular vessels. There will be some good deals on fleabay because of tight money problems/more nicking. I noticed a 2014 Honda 10 running with original receipts went for just £510 recently.

The cool thing with this outboard is it is properly marked against theft. Wycombe Royal Grammar School. This is who I paid by bank transfer yesterday. Nice and straightforward.

unfortunately someone has been at the carburettor already. I an nervous about this. I hope it isn't a problem. I wondered if this is the high speed jet and has been screwed with.

I'd take that to a bike shop if there's one near you that isn't just a showroom. Otherwise, heat and cold shock several times. And a good dose of plusgas. Then maybe attempt to punch it from the side with summat long and sharp like a scriber.
Alternative is to drill it and use a screw extractor (they have reverse threads, very cunninge). Brass is soft so it probably wouldn't be too diffic to drill it.
All assuming a screwdriver doesn't work.
Those ones are a rare-ish bird, it seems. Replacement @ about £150-ish English pounds.
Cor blimey there's quite a few 9.9 variants. Probly wurf checking engine numbers.

The way it is butchered makes me think ignorant person. Maybe it doesn't need to be removed anyway.
What is it? I cleaned the jet at the side of it.

Fairly sure you can get that to move with some gentle tapping. The technique is sharp-ish blows with a light hammer and a sharp pointy thing as previously described.
Unfortunately the metal used for making carbs is quite brittle though. Penetrating oil beforehand a must.

I think it might not need moving anyway. Boats look the same from the front but the starns are very different. The Task master looks better to my eye. So yeah.
