Odd day today with the Messing About In Boats.
Decided that the Honda 9.9 was junk so I dismantled it and bolted the lovely pod motor on the bottom. Got it going and it worked lovely 2.5kw at 28 volts pushed the launch along really nicely. For half an hour and now its completely dead. Batteries are fine. The motor and controller is completely Fucked.
More scrap!
Never mind worse things happen at sea.
I do have a habit of rapidly wearing things out. Its a known known.
It was brilliant for the half hour while it worked !

Talking of scrap, have you sold Dulcinea? It doesn't seem to be on flea bay at the moment.

Blowing a hooley this morning on the Welsh coast. It seems to have been doing that for most of the summer. I've only been able to get out on the kayak 30 times, around half the total of last year. Bit of a calmer spell forecast for later next week, let's hope that doesn't change. Managed to get out to the estuary yesterday late afternoon/ evening, on foot, for low tide. Managed 2 bass including a nice plump 55cm specimen, biggest so far this year.

It's still up in the air. There were a couple of holes drilled in the transom, which had not been sealed. Above the waterline, but still... One of the things to look out for on these boats is the possibility of a rotten transom. They are made of timber skimmed with fibreglass. Once significant water gets inside it can set off irreverible rot. Very expensive to repair. I've hammer percussion tested it and it seems sound but I'm waiting for an old sea dog to return from holiday. He used to be a boat builder and has extensive knowledge. I'll get an opinion off him and go off that. Failing this there's another boat available in the same yard, a Seahog Shortie. More of a dory with a 60hp engine, a real flying machine. I don't know how much he wants for it yet, but I've put the feelers out.

Given this, I'd keep it below 30 knots, make sure it doesn't take off.

Weakened and fire just lit.
Only 6 degrees overnight for next two nights then 3 on Thursday 🥶
Better temperatures next week.
Had a nice meal in the pub and now the boat's warming up.

Nice and warm in the boat, the winds dropped, there's bits of blue sky around and the sun's trying it's best to shine.
Quite a pleasant morning.
I recall walking into Midland Chandlers at Preston Brook 23 years ago today, to discover the staff gathered around a TV screen watching, what we thought at first was an action film.
A day that changed the world quite significantly.

I remember that day. I was seconded to a firm in Sheffield the company I worked for had bought. It was a tough gig not helped by having to drive over the Pennines and back every working day. It seemed like a bit of a joke at first 'a plane has flown into a building'. Went to the boardroom, there were half a dozen huddled around the t.v. It showed the plane flying into the building, over and over again. They don't show that these days. And then bodies dropping from the higher floors. Then the second plane. Then the reports of another strike on the Pentagon. I had so much to do but I couldn't move away from that t.v.
Stunned, felt like WW3 had started.
