Thanks Tony, the only concern is if its listing any, due to water building up in the engine bay, everything else will be fine.

In the marina this morning there is a listing boat being pumped out as I came back - it's been listing for ages and I have commented on it several times but it might have gotten more serious overnight. I've done my first 5 miles in the rain... the Mersey is rather full and fast flowing. My decent boots are by the fire drying so my next walk (the other way) is gonna have to be in my 'emergency boots' - I don't really like them but they are better then "wet".
I'm only gonna do another 3.5 miles for this walk - I'm close to the weight I want to be by Friday morning so it shouldn't be too detrimental.

I have to take my hat off to you Mr Q, you're doing brilliantly sticking to your exercise and abstention regime. 10 miles a day is amazing, but the capitalist in me cant help thinking all that effort should be put to good use. For example, 10 miles would be two return trips to M+S in Nantwich. So you could go back and pick stuff up that you might have forgotten on the first trip. Or fetch the beer on a second trip. Because I wouldnt want you getting too tired. You should consider moving to Cheshire old chap. We could have you up to 20 miles a day in no time. If you had a friend who was also keen on exercise, I could harness you to pull the boat like a pair of great gin-powered Mancunian oxen.

Mancunian *coughs*/// I'm " Gods own county" born and bred - the Mancunian sorts you write of , rarely leave the boat unless the sun is out and even then, it's kicking and screaming! As it happens however, I DO a little shop on each of my walks - purely to give purpose to them... this last time was salad and a couple of bottles of gin for the store cupboard. My next one will in fact include a wander in to S & M down at White city retail park .... where I'll get some twice the fibre rolled oats , cheese for my baked potato tea and probably a few jars of caramelized red onion chutney - also for the store cupboard. I use these 'out of season' times to stock the larder with things that are heavy that I don't want to be carting too and from the boat in between guests later on in the year... assuming any come. Next winter , I'm booked in to Aston Marina so my daily walks along the towpath will take me to Morrison's/ S&M in Stone . The winter after is not yet decided - looking somewhere Warwick area I think...

My sincere apologies for accusing you of being mancunian Mr Q (and my sincere apologies to any mancunians for any suggestion that being mancunian is in some way a sub-optimal state of affairs.) Thanks for the heads up about being in Aston Marina next winter. That's very useful- I mean very nice- to know. Any idea what berth number? I wouldnt want my boat to be parked too far away from Ellis, what with me being so neighbourly.

Having another go at bread (mix) baking as the weather's driven me indoors. Last times was lovely ... but I did a Spoonerism in the preparation by putting 430mls of water in rather than the 340 which was required. It was very sticky but I rescued it with additional flour ... the joy of wholemeal bread ... it's supposed to be rich in fibre. Got the liquid right today ... if I'm going to 'have a piggy day' at least it will be on wholemeal bread Rog

Having another go at bread (mix) baking as the weather's driven me indoors. I must have another go myself ...... after about 5 attempts my last loaf was ....... not too bad, edible and I wasn't "pleased when it was gone"
Metanoia gave me a recipe that improved my attempts after the first 3 goes, so with luck the next one might be ok

Been raining all day here, obviously I spend most of the time in my truck cab but I do have to get out and hook up trailers, open trailer doors etc and so I got soaked. I can never be bothered to put on waterproofs so I'm sure one day I'll catch my death of cold, as my Mum still tells me to this day.
Told them at work today I would be leaving soon to go away cruising and they were pretty devastated. I could hear the young girls on the Traffic Desk sobbing and weeping quietly in the background, but they cheered up a bit when I told them I would be back just as soon as I have run out of money. I reckon that by the end of February I will have enough to go away for five months, and if I can hang on in there until the end of March enough for six months so I will try to keep up some minimal motivation until then which won't be easy as I am by nature extremely lazy and have a very poor work ethic.
Sam, who has a much better attitude as he is young enough for life not to have knocked the crap out of him yet, is applying for a job as a railway signalman at Sandwich, Kent. He's passed the first three stages so he's getting hopeful now. He said to me "So that will be a waste of £70,000's worth of education" ( He has a Masters Degree in History) and I don't think this decision has exactly met with universal approval on his Mum's side of the family, but I said "Look, you spend a hell of a lot of your time at work so doing a job you want to do is more important than status, or money or anything". Eventually he wants to be a train driver, one of his ex-schoolfriends is coming to the end of driver training now and when he has his ticket he will be on £50,000+ a year. At 23 years old.
