I know a guy who has a BMW 3-litre straight-six coupe. It has, as you might expect, all the toys, DSG box. Nice-looking car, very fast, etc. He goes on and on about how good it is. It also goes wrong all the bloody time. There is more than a bit of 'not broken but fix it anyway' going on, but he's the sort of guy who just loves taking cars apart and rebuilding them. The more complicated the better, and if the gearbox malfunctioned I'm sure he'd be over the moon. And I have to say he's good at it, if a tad ridiculously obsessed. I find fuel economy is all down to driving style, and I've never found an automatic car that was more economical than its manual counterpart. Personally I don't give a tinker's cuss about 0-60 times or quick gear changes. I’m sure you are right about not finding an automatic car that is more economical than its manual counterpart, but that’s not what I said. And anyway there is a big difference between a conventional automatic with power-absorbing torque converter, vs a DSG gearbox which has gears and clutches just like a manual. As I said, it’s a manual gearbox operated by a computer. As to 0-60 times I think if you drive mostly in middle Englandshire there is no longer any point in having a fast car - nose to tail traffic, speed cameras, built up areas etc etc. But where I drive there is plenty of point, and good acceleration is useful for overtaking numpty tourists who are dawdling along looking at the views. Good luck with it. Betcha swap it when the warranty expires...

I suspect the components in a commercial truck are somewhat more robust. In any case I don't think the most common failure on the sort of DSG box found on a car lies with the ECU.

Lovely day but a REALLY icy wind ... cruising I was wrapped up like mid winter. Called at Dunchurch Pools marina for diesel (at 74p per litre base rate) and a really lovely lady serving. Always seems jolly pleasant staff there, easy access to the service jetty, and a very good price too. Rog I spent 11 hours on back of boat motoring against the enormously powerful flow of the Thames with weirs almost completely shut in today. No charging for phone on that boat so I was unable to log in and annoy people on here which must have beeb a relief I imagine. 0.3-0.5kn of flow really makes a difference. Strange weather as it was really sunny and I have shocking sunburn to the face as hat was on other boat but it was also really chilly and I lost my cashmere scarf in the River when it blew away. I was like "shall I turn round and get it" then I was like "no no no" Finally arrived at Dulcinea and she was like "yeah yeah yeah" which was good. Plus of course no heating on the other boat on account of the burglary. Dulcinea nice big coal fire me like lots

We've been at our boat since yesterday. So far,we've cleaned & sorted the muck from outside.Next,we will be actually polishing her.

I once looked into polishing my boat and I approached a bloke from up north about advice.
He suggested using "t'cut" so I got out the portable bilge pump and slathered water all over the boat followed by rubbing down but it did not seem to be all that effective.

But instead we just went boating, currently moored near Fradley with a rather dirty boat but happy people inside!

Just been having a random search of the internets. It's amazing what you can find.

I'm sure Steve built the boats in the hope that at some point someone would allow one to get dirty.
They do seem to be a bit of a rubbers type of boat but occasionally you get someone who understands the subject. Which is good.

Just been having a random search of the internets. It's amazing what you can find. Long live Adidas ETA and I remember glascote basin when if was empty . Irish bloke there we had a good time and he gave me a Nicholson guide as a sort of "bugger off you are too annoying" type thing . Looked like a nice little yard then SMH moved in and did the niche marketing thing. Anyone remember the challenger hire boats? Named after a famous spaceship?
