I saw that and laughed, it's all a bit fluffy bunny really. Just because of the colour it must be racist.

Just think about all the other racist chocolate bars sitting on the shelves, I've noticed that white chocolate bars occupy separate shelves too Phil

some of the good folk of Bristol go through agonies regarding certain road names: Blackboy Hill and Whiteladies Road. .... amazingly one runs into the other - the name changes where the steep hill levels out. ... not only highly racist but with sexual overtones as well.
and a certain philanthropic Mr Colston who financed a concert hall in his name now risks his name and his statue being removed. (he was a slave trader).

eta and you still needed coupons for them

It's tough to keep up with what we need to do to avoid being labelled racist. Not so many years ago the term 'coloured' was brought in replace 'black', as the latter was deemed to be racist. Then coloured became racist, to be replaced by black which was racist before, but apparently stopped being so. Most recently we have 'people of colour'. That's perfectly fine apparently, whereas 'coloured' is highly offensive.
It's not just race where it's a struggle. Folk who used to be deaf and dumb are now either deaf and mute, or perhaps, hard of hearing and mute. It's difficult to know where to turn really.
The ones I feel sorry for are the disabled. OK, people don't call them mongs any more but they've had to suffer decades of the same term. Not everywhere though. In India the term is 'other abilities'. I quite like that.

eta and you still needed coupons for them I remember them as 4 for a penny. Just about remember farthings but not coupons. However my favourites were always liquorice bootlaces, and sherbert filled flying saucers. Weren't Spangles also sold individually in those good old days when we had bugger all and were grateful for it?

To be honest, I don't remember individual spangles, But bootlaces, candy cigarettes and sherbert fountains (dont remember the flying saucers when I was very yoiung) and ration books ..... that was the ultimate punishment held over you "Stop that or you will lose your sweety ration" That was guaranteed to make you behave
I have vivid memory of receiving a Christmas gift from my (older) sister, who must have been saving coupons for ages .... it was a small tin and it was packed with all the sweeties that normally my Mother wouldn't let me buy with my pocket money ..... like the candy cigarettes, sherbert fountains, Black Jacks and strawberry chews ..... all things my Mother disapproved of. Of all the Christmas gifts I got as a child, I remember the wonder of opening that tin as clear as a bell

If I recall correctly, rationing for sweets was the last to go in 1954. I can recall being given charge of my own ration book. I felt very grown up and important at the tender age of 8 handing my ration book to the shop keeper to snip the coupon out, accept my money and then hand me back my coupon book along with my purchase.
