The latest news from the IOC is that the entire Russian Paralympic team will be excluded due to the indiscretions of a number of Russian athletes; aided by their national sporting authority . Whilst the able bodied team are able to compete, or not, depending on the whims of the governing bodies of their individual sports, the less able are excluded en masse.
Presumably the thinking is along the lines that the disabled will make less fuss or perhaps less legal action will result.
Personally I think the whole saga is a complete joke. Moreover, it brings the whole Olympic movement into disrepute.
Whilst the rest of civilisation has accepted that the actions of some don't merit the condemnation of others who happen to share the race, nationality or religion of people who don't follow the rules, the IOC apparently think differently. It almost seems that this organisation has adopted the principles of Germany between the wars, when harsh punishment resulted in a popular uprising with blame for the ills of the time being blamed on one group.
It's almost like whereas Hitler saw a Jew, the IOC sees a Russian.

I recently went to PC World looking for a USB extension cable and apparently they don't sell them.. What sort of PC shop doesn't have USB extensions? Hard to believe indeed.

Maybe its just Political Point Scoring through the use of Sport? I always get wary when I see Politicians hijack sporting events, I think when Marx ? talked about Religion being the Opium of the masses, Religion has just been replaced by Sport, what do you think of that Ricco ? I was only reading the other day about the London Olympics and its intended legacy,it just simply hasn't happened, participation in sport amongst the young is apparently dropping and West Ham are about to rename the Olympic Stadium the Tesco Stadium in a sponsorship deal after securing the tenancy for a peppercorn fee.I don't know about the relevance of your fourth paragraph exept to say that the IOC is clearly influenced by Politics.

It's two entirely separate bodies run by different people. If the Paralympic contestants have breached the rules significantly enough to warrant being banned I salute the authority for having the bollocks to do it. The travesty is that the committee in charge of the fully able bodied athletes didn't.

It's almost like whereas Hitler saw a Jew, the IOC sees a Russian.
A quick Google search of the controversy reveals this Wall Street Journal blurb: Eighteen urine samples with scratched tops hardly seems cause to ban the entire Russian team. There must be much less money involved in the Paralympics than the regular Olympics. Sochi was a big deal in Russia for many years before the games and it was featured in ads and billboards all over Moscow years before the events. I'd imagine "Olympic fever" has quite a hold in Russia and that translates to money and the one thing the IOC never wants to mess with is Olympic revenue. Their revenue is much more important than the sports or the athletes or any type of false ethos they profess.
