Often weekending is the only way that some people can do long journeys on the canal system. I used to do a lot of cruising like that in the 80's, using weekends to move the boat in short hops and longer breaks to do longer trips. I would have seen a heck of a lot less of the system if I hadn't. So often it is not always "avoiding paying for a mooring" but sometimes "seeing more distant parts of the system" Pointless you trying to explain anything, you posted this same very post a week ago,the whole thread is another dig at me from a bloke with a Personality Disorder. Facts and the real world don't matter to this clown,he would have been gassed in Nazi Germany on account of being simple I am beginning to wonder if you both have BPD

Is there such a thing as a dumper? Every boater has to leave thier boat from time to time. If the definition of a dumper is someone who leaves thier boat on the cut, we are all dumpers occasionally. Or are we defining a dumper to be someone who is just trying to save on mooring fees? Live aboard's aren't always on thier boat either and I'm not sure if anyone would buy a boat without the view to cruising on it. What would be the point? It's just another deogratory term used to divide boaters and score points. i just used it as shorthand to describe a behaviour that I think is pretty anti social. I suppose serial dumper would have been a better description. As I say what I think is the anti social bit is the hogging of visitor moorings near facilities. I think most of us leave our boats out of the way, if we have to leave the boat for a few days. I suppose that is one positive effect of 48h VM's. I do wonder if some people who moan about dumpers in MK realise how many of those boats are actually on long term moorings?

Had a boater grumbling one evening by the Black Horse about boats being dumped and that they had been there for weeks. They were boats on the long term mooring by the Black Horse. I asked him how he knew, apparently he had been backwards and forward over that bit of canal several times in the previous few months. I asked if he had looked at the notices on the posts and got a blank look and suggested that he take a look. He went off and did not come back to the Pub.

Sadly I think it's mis-information from 'boaters' like this who are causing the majority of us grief by moaning to CRT. I wish people would do the research first rather than rely on bigoted agenda's

I brought this up on the other channel last year/this year we were stuck at Doncaster because of floods and dumpers used this as an opportunity to dump their boats! CRT however moved them on because the other direction was still open. They needed all the moorings for boats that were trying to get back to Rotherham and Sheffield before the Tinsley flight was closed. Caused rows and one boat towed away when they refused to move it. As the patrol officer said if you are a constant cruiser you can cruise the other way!!
