Not quite the time for the bathchair and being wheeled up and down the esplanade down here. Where to next who knows wait until it pecks around the corner and then grab it.

Well Great Haywood Boat Sales have been on the phone to me the intent apparently to persuade me to put Clarence on brokerage with them. Oh I have still got to go up there to read the contract etc etc
That puzzled me why? Had I not made my position clear and solid, was what I wrote and said not read and heard, seems not. The lady I have been speaking to referred to herself as a Director, so a trip to Companies House, there is only one director listed Stephen Andrews, no one else is listed as an officer of the company. mmmm puzzled

I know 'coz my mate is one.

The solution is pretty simple graham, don't put your boat for sale with them.

Customer tells me they are going elsewhere and I know the reason and I won't change it I leave the customer alone.

I agree it does seem strange behaviour, the only power we have in a capitalist society is too take our business somewhere else.

I have been reading this without commenting but I've decided I ought to add a little.
Sorry to hear you are having to give up "Clarence" it's hard enough having to do so without getting hassle and bad vibes from brokers. I hope that it won't be the complete end of boating for you.
I know that for me the day will come when being mobile on the water will have to stop. (and at the rate things keep wearing out it approaches too damn fast) I am hoping though, that I will still be able to live aboard "Sabina H" until total decrepitude approaches.
Good luck in your future

Agreed, there is a choice of brokers out there without the need to get tied up with someone who for whatever reason you have concerns about. that is one reason we had our boat moved to the Midlands to sell even though it cost us to do so as I wanted to sell it with someone I trusted having dealt with them when we bought it. We could have gone with a broker up north and saved a bit of dosh in the process but I simply had no idea about any of them what so ever.

Thanks John, when it is too much to walk the 100 yards between two locks I suspect it is time for the bank. Just a vague chance I might buy a bumpy water boat, I have two marinas within 30/40 minutes of the house down here, so time will tell.

I was talking with a cousin yesterday, who is now in his 80's. He was facing the possibility that he might have to give up motorcycling. (He had to give up fell walking a couple of years ago) We were discussing the potentiality of a sidecar or a trike for a few more years. The other option was to buy a wreck for restoration (He has always been a keen "tinkerer") which would at least keep in touch with his favourite pastime. Your idea of a bumpy water boat is a good one It certainly would avoid walking (unless you really get properly stuck on the putty) On our mooring we have an elderly couple (he is in his 90's and she chasing hard on his heels) that have a 30 foot cruiser. They never go out anymore but during the warmer weather they spend a lot of time on the boat "tinkering" and getting it ready for their "next trip". We all know that it isn't going to happen but they thoroughly enjoy just being on their boat and in the atmosphere of this very uncommercial boatyard

Not sure what to but yet, one half of me says something with sails and a good motor, so maybe a motor/sailor capable of being able to ride a bit of weather and sneak across the channel and maybe down into the Med. But yes the time will come when it is only the perfect days that one lets go and then it is just sunny days pottering. Must say hope I get to his age. I bought the Focus Titanium X because all the extras make it an easier and more relaxing car to drive and at 50mpg she does me well. We have Sovereign Harbour, Newhaven, Rye further up the cost and Brighton the other way. There are probably others that will appear as I dig. Have to brush up on my navigation etc though, might do a couple of RYA courses. ETA Ah the putty, mmmm Bilge keels on the motor sailor so she can take to ground.

Going up to Calcutt to do a major sort out on C will be around For the beginning of the week if anyone on here would like to see this grumpy one in the flesh Is he as bad as some think probably Then off down the Oxford and a meet with Don and then depending on how we feel a few days going south or maybe move her direct onto brokerage.
