Just missed you! (As expected). Left Keadby at 08:40 and arrived on the pontoons at Torksey at around 12:40. Cromwell tomorrow. Not going for an excursion up to Lincoln?? No, we went to Boston a few years ago. Fossdyke isnโt the most interesting and didnโt much care for Brayford pool. We will have a relaxing 24 hrs on the pontoons here then set off midday tomorrow.

Let you know when we get there ๐ About 2km to go but really pushing the current now. Left with four narrows and one widebeam this morning and me and the wide have left the others behind. Lockie told us it was a two hour trip๐ณ

A small narrowboat โCondorโ left Keadby with us this morning, bound for Cromwell. They fell behind quite quickly so I would imagine they passed Torksey at about 12:55. They will definitely have a long slog! I phoned Cromwell to tell them we were arriving tomorrow. I guessed 3 hours for the trip but he said it would be longer. Looks like he was right! Is the current now stronger than it was when you first departed Torksey?

Thinking of trying Cromwell to Keadby next year. Would that work in one day with our DM2โs Tony?

I guessed 3 hours for the trip but he said it would be longer. Looks like he was right! Is the current now stronger than it was when you first departed Torksey? We entered Cromwell lock at 2.55 pm. GPS told me we were doing just under 4 mph first hour of cruise. Then 5 mpg next hour, back to 4 mph last hour or so. This was at 1700 rpm which on still water usually equates to 4.5 mph. Current above Cromwell is pretty fast! We moored at the Muskham Ferry inn, has to zap in quick and tie up front fast before current took us. A NB following us then decided he would reverse in. Much hilarity followed. After four attempts he has come in now first, even then managed to give us a good bump and very nearly squashed a plastic cruiser. Anyway, it was a lovely trip up, youโll enjoy I reckon.

Condor has moored next to us. Ah well they made it then. Bit of a long day blasting along a river at high power, I would have thought.

Going by the reading on the EA's Torksey gauge/recorder, this morning's Flood arrived there at 1130 hrs and the accompanying rise in river level, which would have preceded a change in direction of the tide, began from a level of 1.13 m above Typical Low Summer Level.

I intend to be on the river by 12:00 latest tomorrow, maybe a bit earlier. Lockie, who is a volunteer, just looked at his printed sheet when I asked, and said โ12:10โ. Itโs all done by numbers these days.
Smaller tide than today, but a bit less fresh, hopefully = similar passage time.

Anyway, shopping stop at Waitrose is required. Newark air museum is worth a look if you have any interest in aviation.
