Just to add, don't moor near the junction, that's where a friend had his boat window smashed and the contents turned upside down. He then moved it to that boat sized bit at the dry dock and left it for a month with no trouble at all. CRT even kept an eye on it, so they said. Yes it’s funny how one lock and a few hundred yards makes all the difference! But there were no boats moored in the junction pound and that tells a story.

As you'll see when you go past, near the junction the canal is alongside an industrial estate with a tall (corrugated?) fence. Nobody much uses the towpath there and the fence stops it being overlooked making it perfect for scrotes to do what scrotes do free from interference. Cowardly natured at heart.

I last did Wigan 21 in or around 1974 en route from Ripon to Warwick so I expect it’s changed a bit since then! Wigan flight took us around 3.5 hrs going up last week. It’s not so bad. While I’m posting il add a couple of things. We moored by dry dock night previous to doing the flight. No problems. Good bar called central bar or such, short walk from boat. After we went up the flight last Thursday(think this is only day they have volunteers on) we went straight through to Adlington. Couple of pubs and a coop and Tesco express about half a mile walk. Also marina with chandlers and diesel. From there we went to Johnson’s hillocks, moored at bottom lock one night, then two more nights at top lock. Decent Sunday lunch at the Dressers arms. Good pimms at the top lock inn. Incidentally bumped into quaysider whilst there, top bloke. Moored at Riley Green last night, nothing there but lovely mooring. Went through Blackburn this morning(Thursday only day vollies work). Didn’t like Blackburn and advised not to hang around, especially overnight. Asda is 5 minutes walk from top lock. Now moored by aqueduct at bridge 109. Lovely views but bit noisy as it’s near motorway. Should also mention it’s rather weedy from Wigan to here but better last couple of mile. We came up the flight in front of ianali but booked assis6ftkm CRT (only on Thursdays) Needn't hafd bothered as boat we paired with had a big crew and there were plenty of volunteers . Have spent since then at top of locks as Eddie was vgoing to overhaul our Boatman stove. We didn't find weed too bad, all gone by Red Rock. The Coop nentioned is not the one shown in the guides. That's closed. Now a half mile walk uphill. Didn't see the diesel price at White Bear but 86p at PB Marine about a mile on.nightshave moored in the pound by the drydock on the wayvto Livetpool but very noisy extractor running all night on factory near Henhurst Lock. Then a couple of nights on the new pontoon below the drydock. The waterpoint there is just a black cabinet, not your normal one. We moored just below the first lock of the flight. Very shallow so back end 6ft out from towpath but no bother from anyone. And not such an early start. Have to say how few boats are moving. In the 5 days we were moored at the top I counted 24 boats.
