In my defense if I owned a house in Whaley Bridge I'd still see the funny side of it. Seeing humour in unfortunate circumstances helps to get you through life without too much depression, in my opinion. I know others don't agree but whether you react to misfortune with humour, or, run around waving your arms frantically in the air telling everyone who will listen how terrible things are, there's no moral superiority, one way or the other.

I think early on there was a genuine risk that the dam would go. Some of the cloudburst occurring in the region were very severe and another one of those dumping into a feeder when the spillway was already breaking up could have been enough. Once the level was dropped enough to stop the overflow and measures taken to reduce it further...... then yes it became more of a elfin safety and risk aversion scenario.
I don't think that was the case at first

I don't think it has anything to do with moral superiority, I think you're overplaying what rog said. Some people are sensitive and genuinely concerned of the predicament these people find themselves in, whilst others behave like twats merely for a bit of recognition. Care and support within the community used to be very popular, these days we seem to have a lot of self centred fuckin pricks who simply don't give a shit as long as it doesn't effect them. Sadly, the pricks seem to be increasing in number, and this place gets more like cwdf everyday. Magnet man Foxy Dogshit donkey all well deserved of the cretin label, and frankly ricco, it's little wonder you can't pick and choose who you shag. Just look at your fucked up "principles" and "statements".

Seeing humour in adversity and actively wishing for that adversity to provide you with entertainment are not quite the same thing.

Something like - Why do disaster stories hold the front pages?

Same with boaters though. We don’t often say how wonderful the view was...we like to say how difficult our journey was and how brave we were .
