Not the John Denver track! It was with a heavy heart we slipped the ropes on Saturday form the Fish and Duck, I had collected my brother and sister in law from Littleport in the car so they could have a good run down river. We spent a couple of hours in Ely then moored up at the Swan for a decent feed, overnighted there and made full use of the complimentary Electric. Sunday morning saw us leaving for Denver, bit of water tank topping up and thunderbox emptying then a good wait for the tide. Bit of a shit slow crossing to Salters as one of the mad buggers off the levels was locking through with us running a poorly overheating Honda outboard - I felt duty bound to shepherd him home, we only got a 5 out of 10 for our entry into Salters, combination of lack of speed, too soon a turn and concern for a novice was the main culprit for that piss poor score. Today saw the test drive of my new Honda eu20 - it's the absolute dogs bollocks; Nice steady run to Upwell where we found a diesel spill to rival the Exon Valdez disaster, duly reported to the MLC, we are now moored in the middle of nowhere listening to Steve Wright run down the top 40 Albums of all time and are about to light the BBQ. You gotta love boating

Despite having been past Chez Athy 14 times we are yet to meet. We didn't hang about today as I didn't fancy getting caught up in the aftermath of the diesel spill, we are on the March side of Marmont Priory lock so can get home unimpeded There are no shit cheap dwellings in wellup as you so aptly call it, I did my bit for inter cruiser sewer tube relations - we put an ignorant old git up on the dirt, I commented as we went by 'what luck we didn't meet in the bridge!' Got a spikey reply along the lines of balls to you pal!

Fuck me, the Fens are HUGE! Some bits are, some less so - well creek where Athy lives is like going down a brook in a 9'6" wide boat! Looking the other way as the sun goes down, we are on the sixteen foot at the moment.

I was actually referring to the SIZE of gazza's photo! Sorry, I can't help with the explanation on that one, maybe MJG could? It's often said the Fens have huge skies, mainly because it's flatter than a plate of piss out here

PS, my GPS says we are currently lower than the dead at -7' elevation. The lowest place in England is at Holme Fen not many miles away, sadly it's a bit too weedy down that way for us to visit by boat.

We have Fenland on our list but not until about 2020. I mean the year, not this evening.
