There will always be personality clashes. I sometimes wonder if that's why canalworld did the banter thing. Get people together in a pub and it's easier to get a general idea of what is happening. Obviously with TB a group meeting is more or less impossible due to the whole geography thing but it's theoretically a sound idea. Henley wetherspoons then is it ? I'm buying the drinks Its a long way to go for a pint There is room in our boat for one. On the kitchen floor. I think a TB get-together (some Canalworld members also welcome?) would not be a bad idea, but I think a proper 'venue' (not a pub) would be needed, and effort put in as regards food and drinks. These things are possible, but take time, planning and effort. On second thoughts, meeting in a pub is possible, as long as it is a quiet pub where people can talk. A pub is easy as the drinks and food are already there.

Accomodation available Shit I will have to be careful not to offer overnight in the wetherspoon hotel ! Well in that case I'm all out of excuses. I'll bring a sleeping bag. We also have two 2-man tents in our boat and have noticed several nice patches of grass beside locks.

Ok so is it next weekend then ? River currently flying so boat not going anywhere in a hurry. Worth mentioning the sheep and also the Canada geese issues. The latter have been responding well to the catapult but the ball bearings have no effect on the sheep. Too much wool. Goose curry? A quick glance at the calendar says the 14th or 21st. But we should say one thing in public and conspire in private for another on account of the fox peril...

Ok. A weekend fling is the only option currently. Plus the boat is about 15 minutes by car from town cente so taxi or non drinker. Or a risk taking drinker. Hambleden lock closed so no river option regardless of engine size. I'll go with the cab. Getting nicked is usually unpleasant. You can always enjoy the chase:

Can’t you get your staff to bring your super yacht over from Monaco for the weekend?

A RAB 1000g sleeping bag and a hot water bottle chucked inside that. Listen to the owls, or the silence of the moors, or the wind rustling the branches of the trees.

Its funny but what seemed like an adventure when I was 16 now seems like a passage to rheumatic hell.

also needs to be near a Premier Inn/Travellodge/Campinale for those of us who will have to travel long distance There's a Premier in Gargrave, and The Mason's pub is nice. Or perhaps they would allow us to sleep in the ringing chamber in the church? There's a toilet downstairs.

Providing the water levels are down enough that I can come, I would like to meet more Thunderboaters ..... I have met Foxy and Magnetman previously but if there can be a Thunderboat gathering, I would definitely be up for it.
