I would have thought that was worth the photo competition.

I would have thought that was worth the photo competition. Good idea, BTW, on this trip I've had a bit of reflection and humble pie. I remember telling you in April that I wouldn't spoil it here for you and had no intention of posting much. I think you said something along the lines of stick around you might like it and learn a thing or two. Well; 5 months, a fair few posts, some pictures (cheers MJG ) and a total failure to meet fellow thunderboaters - How right was you?!

You could always join us sometime - Christmas lunch on the Llangollen? Next Summer Leeds & Liverpool? We can call in on Kris and get to try out his Pit of Hell! Here's a sunrise pic I took yesterday on my way to work at 0615:

"Have you seen the latest "great canal journeys" "
I watched all 4 episodes of Series One - and the Oxford & London Ring of Series Two, but I wasn't really interested in the Canal du Midi nor the Scottish canals so gave those a miss.
I'm sure everyone here remembers we bumped into Basil Fawlty's wife and Timmy West a couple of years ago; they invited us into their boat for a glass of wine, and they came into our boat and had a look around. By Little Bourton Lock, just to the north of Banbury.

I'm sure everyone here remembers we bumped into Basil Fawlty's wife I'm not entirely sure she'd appreciate you calling her that.

Oho - I see there are some new episodes, it says Leeds & Liverpuddle first shown 31 August 2016 - and it's only 4th September today... so, no, not yet! It doesn't seem to be available anywhere yet, to be seen by computer (?). There's also the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal in this new batch, shall try to watch that - that was our first canal 3 years ago. And I could look at the Göta Canal episode and the one about the Forth & Clyde...
First job today to start winding up my family tree project; this Summer we went to visit my dad's 2 cousins again (met them for first time last October, and at Christmas, and it was they who suggested that I do this) who both live in Baildon close to the L&L Canal. Got corrected information from them about the photos in their albums, so can alter that particular list of photos and get it printed and photocopied. Then I have three people's 'life histories' to type up (and mine too to chuck into the files), write a synopsis of the whole project, post the lot to 5 people, and then continue with my original plans for this year (writing my memoirs and labelling all of my photos - mostly for my own amusement). This family tree project has made me much more aware of that part of my family (my dad's father's parents' descendants), I have ended up with a stack of photos of them and information about them, and know who lives where in the year 2016 - and we have met at least 9 direct relations of mine for the first time since last October. A side effect of this has had us meeting 3 of my 2nd-cousins on my dad's mother's side. None of the younger members of this family I have found seem to be interested in this project, so I expect the papers and photos will just be stored in boxes until some time in the future someone will open those boxes/files and perhaps will be encouraged to start their own family tree project of their own area of their local family. From now on, I can keep tabs on the whole situation, visit our relations living close to the L&L Canal next Summer, and when I snuff it my set of photos/files will be handed to either my son or daughter, I guess (neither of whom seem to be interested in this sort of thing).

We are researching our family tree on mums side mainly as a whole village belonged to branch of the family..Landymores..a branch of whom emigrated to Canada. We've visited a few that surfaced.and.. they gave copies of all their information, my sister has all the info as she has to be the first to get everything. She's promised to copy for me but I guess as long as one family member stores for future doesn't matter who. One of her daughters very interested but my kids not bothered. We were tracked down by Frazer and Frazer..the solicitors who specialise in finding people when someone dies intestate and thats where it all started.
