Here lays our problems. We all want stuff... Greta Thunberg sips on bottled water and hectors me because I won't walk twelve miles to work at three o'clock in the morning... I think the truth is that we are all hypocrites but to different degrees. That still shouldn't be an excuse not to make individual lifestyle changes which may help the climate recover. As I've said before, our current world economic model is buggering up the planet. It seems we are stuck in a bubble of denial because we think our lifestyles since birth are 'normal'...and they're not. Mother earth is now in a process of burning off a virus which is threatening to kill her.

I'm not a hypocrite, I use as much energy as I want, fly wherever I want, buy whatever I want but I will help with the problem, I will die soon. How is that?

That's one of the dangers of forums I suppose, we don't know the personal circumstances of most of those reading our posts. You are right, if someone doesn't care about the environment or don't complain about it, then they aren't a hypocrite. Neither are those who do everything they can to help.

twat !
those who decide to sit on the fence and wait to see what will happen are dangerous doubters.
unjustified optimism has no place when the future of our children and grandchildren may be at risk.
If you feel that strongly about it, why do you own a computer? Don't you realise that computer was shipped half-way around the world and then travelled hundreds of miles by truck before you bought it? Or did you think the PC World fairy just magicked it into the shop while you were asleep? But with the aid of his computer the badger can enlighten us all. His knowledge and advice, surely, is worth its weight in gold?

That still shouldn't be an excuse not to make individual lifestyle changes which may help the climate recover. If you want to see real avarice, have a peek at one of those television shows where women are choosing wedding dresses. One of the ways I help to save resources is by putting my morning tea biscuits on a sheet of kitchen towel instead of a teaplate. The sheet ends up in our stove wood box and goes up the chimney, creating heat for our home, and having no plate saves on precious water for the washing-up and a dab of Fairy Liquid. It's really 'cos I'm too lazy to do the washing up, but doesn't mean I shouldn't get the credit for it. Greta's Award should be mine, really.

Weddings, birthdays, guy fawkes, Christmas etc all seem good examples of celebrations which cost the environment. The trouble is that anyone who points out things like that gets labelled a twat. Isn't that how marketing works?

Yes, it's funny how 'Save the Environment' goes right out the window when it comes to weddings, wedding gifts, big houses and big cars. As I have said before, go to any airport and try to stop people from flying and you will soon get a fist to your face. Or how about football or rugby matches? Cancel the match and tell the fans they will instead go around the city and surrounding countryside picking up litter. You know, the stuff that they themselves have chucked out of their car windows! Do you think they'd go and do that.... or piss off straight to the nearest pub?
I put 152 litres of diesel into my bus yesterday, and 43 litres of petrol into our car.

We're all going to die ... for most of us the timing is still a mystery ... but it's coming to us all. Nothing we can do except to take as much care of ourselves as possible and to keep as strong and healthy as possible. I suggest all our life styles, and families and friends are contributing to 'the problem' ... some more, some less. But I still fail to see what significant difference any single person can do. If I opt out of consumerism does that mean that stuff will stop being produced and shipped around the world? Historically hasn't technology advanced faster than problems, and man's ingenuity has kept pace ? Not my igenuity obviously Rog

More greed: "Flybe's billionaire owners spark fury by asking the Government to bail them out with £100million loan" "Last night, an IAG spokesman said: 'Flybe's owners have very deep pockets and they should be bailing out the airline not taxpayers.' " "But Chancellor Sajid Javid dismissed his complaints, insisting that the package of measures agreed last week were not state aid. " "Perfect. Enough explosives to smash the atomic reactor. If this doesn't bring International Rescue on the scene, nothing will."

I can well afford to buy new, but I see no reason to when I can buy a good used car or boat engine, and many other items. Doing so avoids the production of new stuff and reduces waste.
Buying on line avoids hundreds of miles of car mileage each year, making often abortive journeys to the shops.
Owning a computer does not increase carbon miles overall, it reduces them, in my case hugely.
You need to look at the wider picture instead of being A STABBY TWAT.

Isn't half the problem that we are becoming more selfish? Sharing is good way to contribute. Kind of goes back to the 3 generations sharing the same house thing (mind you that would probably do my head in!). We have more control over making changes to our own lifestyles than persuading others. Lead by example...now where do I start?

It must be 'greener' to order food on line too. Having a single van deliver to multiple addresses must be 'greener' than dozens of cars driving to the supermarket. On the flip side, how many carbon miles are wasted buying shit we don't need from the other side of the world? And, how many carbon miles are wasted sending the scrap back around the world to dump? So yes, buying second hand is good for the environment, I just wish things were made to last longer than 1 year.
