@ben and JohnV I liked your posts in the sense that I agree ... not that I like the deaths of ... well, I'm sure you get it. I often wonder these days how news stories are selected, and why some are simply ignored. Rog

Current 'scary flu' has been assessed as around twice to three times more transmissible as normal flu and about 5 times more deadly. No point in showing sources of info as they vary widely, but it is worthwhile the authorities planning for it.
Nothing most of us can do though...

This Chinese virus thing does seem quite intriguing timing.
US about to go to war in middle East. US doing trade war with China. UK doing Brexit and probably aligning themselves with the US in trade deals.
Media run by the US?
You have to wonder if the virus has been deliberately introduced.
Why do I think nobody will die in America because of this.

At the moment, the important factor is whether or not the spread of the contagion is effectively contained or not. Its still spreading. If there is an outbreak here in the UK, do you think our government will be able to build five hospitals in five days to combat it? Yes, most people who pick up the bug won't die. But on a global scale, many will. And will health authorities get any better at reacting to the next event? I doubt it.

If the no.34 virus gets into an "underdeveloped" country then it could rack up a few kills it seems. It's a shame really because it is "developed" countries that are fucking it all up so the virus while having good intentions will probably fail. Must try harder next time.

So much for quarantine! Passengers stranded on coronavirus cruise ship chat over balconies as the number of people who contracted the illness on board DOUBLES WTF??
usual failing news production. why is it surprising that people in quarantined contract the bug? for god's sake, that is precisely why they are in quarantine - because there is a risk that they may contract the bug.
foxxy, you are a gullible eejit - you are totally taken in by this crap non-news.

I thought it was eating live bats which caused it.
Human to human? Surely not.
Cruise ships always keep a stock of live bats hanging around in case someone gets a craving.

I am currently full of cold, coughing and sneezing and full of runny snot and I'm sure I've caught coronavirus off the special fried rice I had from the Brinklow House chinky last weekend.

I'm a bit worried about catching it over the internet.
Using surgical gloves on the phone now which itself is decontaminated every 25 minutes with Dettol.

The rapid hospital builds did seem to be a bit of a giveaway plus the president ping doing the "we have a grave situation" comment. Not enough holes in the ground to put the bodies in.
It's the end of the world. Armageddon outa here.
And yes the 34 year old dying was a bit bad !

Back from 2 weeks work at Huawei in Shenzhen, no flu or cold issues to report anywhere around there. Its possibly a real issue, I mean, 600 dead out of a 1.3 billion population, its a real concern (if you believe the Daily Fail!)🙄🙄🙄

Hope you had a good trip otherwise. Where there any signs of panic amongst the populace?

It's the death rate that's important? If 2% killed 50m people and this has the same rate, there are about 4 or 5x as many people now so that could equate to 200-250m people by the time it's over. That's a lot of people.
