Did anyone receive information about the emergency month long stoppage at Barbridge junction effective from today?
Last time I came through there was really heavy oil pollution for about two miles between Calveley and Hurleston junction.
Was there also something issued about the adaptation to Stanthorne Lock gates? It now takes about half an hour to descend as for some reason bolts have been fixed to both bottom backplates (sorry, don't know the technical term) limiting the rise of each paddle to about 5 notches. As there is a major leak on the top gate it feels like it will never empty. Fair enough at this time of year but if this is a long term thing the queues on this busy stretch will be beyond belief.
Anyone know what's going on, please?
Thanks met x

We got an emergency stoppage notice for (I think) it was a collapsed culvert at Barbridge junction, but don't recall seeing any others.
I didn't pay particular attention as it wasn't on our route, sorry.

Bit concerned the lock thing might be breach panic ….
.... and no-one seems bothered about a couple of miles of serious oil pollution? Booms deployed at the bottom of Hurleston and just beyond the collapsing culvert.

Not really - the M6 is 200 miles of pollution.

Heard reports in the past that C&RT refer people reporting oil spillages to E.A. And in turn E.A. advise it is C&RT water. I'm therefore not surprised you can't get anyone interested metanoia . But if it has been reported, we can do no more. Rog

Could it be from the extensive works at Hurleston locks? There a lot of oily plant working in the canal bed.
