Yesterday, the other half and I went to a local solicitors to "make our wills" - it's been something we've been meaning to do since we nearly died of carbon monoxide poisoning a couple of years ago.
Anyway, it appears West Yorkshire is a bit - let's call it "parochial" still... in that, she kept slipping up making statements like "I don't see why we shouldn't treat you the same as any NORMAL" couple lol....
personally, I don't give a flying fart but I could see she was uncomfortable.
I DID take a bit of offence at her repeated suggestion we make Mutual rather than mirror wills - she obviously thinks we botty burglars can't keep promises to uphold whoever dies first wishes.... reference was even made that perhaps in "our world" open relationships are the norm lol.
Ironic given that of the 2 "normal blokes" I work with, I'm the only one who's NOT nobbed anyone other than my beloved for the past 10 years... and we're the ones paying her 300 quid an hour for a bit of cut and pasting.
hmmf

It's become very public. Some will still feel they are stepping on "hot ashes", being very aware and guarded with what they say when dealing with it. I think time will see things get better.

we're pretty much in the closet - but open when required... or rather, when not threatened...
tbh, I'm totally cool with people NOT liking it or finding it DIFFICULT - I don't wish to make anyone uncomfortable so TRY to be as matter of fact and "normal" as possible. I did take exception to her intimation that " for people like you", Mutual wills are a better option. We got our own way though AND put it in that we want our boddies to be cremated as cheaply as possible - she was trying to talk us out of that one lol.

I'm interested why you felt you needed to go to a solicitor. Why not just write your own wills, get them signed and witnessed, leave copies with family members?

I suppose it was a case of ensuring it was done properly and "lodged" somewhere that the family (who don't benefit as much as they will be assuming) don't have access to until 'After the event'...

That's one good reason I suppose! Shame you have to pay through the nose for it. A strong metal box with a gert big padlock and a note saying do not open till we snuff it would work the same

I've got a copy of mine with my parents, another with my sister. I also did my divorce myself. I hate paying money to the leeches that are solicitors.

I haven't got a will because I've got fuck all to leave anyone. I have left instructions for my funeral and I've told the kids they are specifically prohibited from putting a wreath which says "DAD" in the windows of the hearse and if they disobey me I will come back and haunt them.
