I have introduced quite a few people to barbecued bananas ....... gorgeous !!! You can spread a lot of happiness with a bunch of bananas, a bar of chocolate and a pot of cream.

You can put then in things to be sure. Banana bread for example. I have never had indigestion from bananas.

I've always used sliced up marsbars - makes for an even more gooey sweet mess.

You can put then in things to be sure. Banana bread for example. I have never had indigestion from bananas. We've made all kinds of stuff with bananas instead of fat. When you're trying to live on fumes you get creative (and a little obsessed) and whatever is reduced to 10% in Tesco is what we have primarily. 50% off is a maybe. Some stuff of course never gets reduced, but surprisingly little. That used to add up to a surprisingly exotic diet up here in West Lancs because the locals live on pie, spuds and pizza. We had months of coconut butter for instance, something we'd never consider at full price. We've had veal, fresh fish pie mix, tons of fresh fish, steaks, pineapples, grapes, strawberries, all the fun deli cheeses, 2x 2kg New York Deli pies in slices... But it went to the dogs when Tesco decided to close the fish and Deli counters. Those were the days! We still live(d) on the 10% stuff, but it's more boring now. We're sanguine about the disappearance of that cheap food resource, it is what it is, got to eat!

Yes, also had my stint of "living on fumes" and as you say you become adaptable, it is surprising the excellent meals you can make from unusual ingredients. That history is probably why I did not have to panic buy to stock up for a siege ..... I've been prepared for years

some folk complain that they've had to live in a cardboard box in the central reservation of the M1.
we were so poor we had to eat the cardboard boxes.

Living on a boat encourages a degree of 'being prepared for all eventualities' don't you think ?

It gets a bit complicated if the locks stop working and the water trickles out.
Maybe a sea going boat yes but canal boats you rely 100% on the usability of the infrastructure.
If law and order breaks down you are a sitting duck.

Im already reading far too much (instead of avoiding and getting on with scripts!) now adding civil unrest and the likelihood of a mob attack raiding my carefully planned stores isn't helping! I may be away some time. (till tea time at least)
