Chris orders her meds online for delivery and this time there was a warning in the site that inhalers were a bit "tricky" due to sudden surge in the amount that were being prescribed and Chris may not get one. We talked about it and Salbutamol is a regular feature in Chris's meds so we wondered what was the cause of the run on inhalers, the doctors for prescribing them is the only answer that we could think of. Do people pressure the doc to issue a scrip and why would anybody wish to take medicine that they clearly have not needed up to now . Shakes head and walks away Phil

It’s because Covid 19 causes respiratory symptoms so inhalers are prescribed to help keep the sufferers airways open and allow them to breathe without resorting to ventilators

Just talking to my sister about this subject today. She is physically pretty disabled and has very weak hands, and seems to struggle with a normal inhaler so she has something a bit more fancy, not quite sure exactly what it is. Anyway, out of stock at the moment, and it’s made in Italy which might have something to do with it!
This is one of the downsides of globalisation / race to the bottom on price, buyers like the NHS tend to give one ginormous order to the cheapest seller, so other suppliers have no business and stop making the product. The biggest and cheapest supplier has a bit of a monopoly, which is ok until there is a glitch and then there is no alternative supplier. Pretty short sighted, but that is the modern business world, just worry about this month’s budget and never mind the future!

Plus there is probably someone somewhere sitting on a box of ten thousand inhalers waiting until people start to want them really badly.

It’s because Covid 19 causes respiratory symptoms so inhalers are prescribed to help keep the sufferers airways open and allow them to breathe without resorting to ventilators And because where users may previously wait until they have a few days left before ‘ordering another’ now want to have a months supply at home ‘on the shelf’ just in case. Running out if you have Covid-19 is not going to be pleasant.

I think we all have to make sure we have enough and spare... I remember working in an geriatric hospital(Vale of Levan, Dunbartonshire) and we admitted his old lady who'd brought a huge suitcase..when we undid it...it was choice bloc with pills which she'd hoarded all her life..Now thats stockpiling!
