Off buggering about on Thames this weekend with our 3.2M inflatable and outboard. On the EA anglian region we get 2 x 7 day periods reciprocal with the Thames region, our licence is about 4" x 5" in a self sealing sticky envelope, ideal to stick to windows or transoms. Gets in touch with the EA Thames region to sort visitors licence - so far so good, times short so they promised to email it over for me to print out. I was expecting the same size licence, cos, well, they are the EA and everything will be the same won't it? Surely? Nope, prints it off and I gets a fricking great landscape A4 sheet that would be fine in a window.... Oh well, laminate, gaffa tape job sorted

Don't bother to display it, my Thames licence was just two pieces of paper and although I stuck them to the windows with masking tape they soon fell off due to damp and I just put them on a shelf somewhere, nobody seemed bothered that I didn't have them on display.

We haven't got a shelf to put it on either Not decided where to chuck it in yet, either the Swan at Radcot or the Trout at Lechlade, needs to by a pub so the women's who won't get in are catered for.

Just so long as you've got them somewhere in case some jobsworth asks then you should be ok. Not done that section of the Thames but I didn't see any CRT-type towpath enforcement, you might be asked if you go through a lock but I don't imagine you would be the first visitor in this situation.

I reckon the Broads Authority have got it right, their Tolls Plaque is sort of paper-ish and self adhesive, sticks to anything and survives stuck to the bows, one plaque per side, likewise RIBs and inflatables'. They are a different colour each year so it's easy to spot if out of date even from a distance. Phil

I guess the cwdf licence displaying swot team are more likely to be the problem

Always keep your balls and your brains with you. At all times. I mean always.
