As per the title ......... This summer I used my car sat nav ( el cheapo Garmin) in its speed/direction average time/speed format rather than as a chart/map plotter. The accumulated figures have been quite interesting for my exploration of the Fens ....... totalled 398.9 miles in 102.1 hours moving time at an average speed of 3.9 mph. Maximum recorded speed 6.5 mph (that must have been downhill with a following wind ) It also recorded the time stationary and the overall average speed including stopped time (obviously only while the engine was running) as 146 hours/2.7 mph Someone suggested an app for my phone (silly bugger my phone makes telephone calls and at a pinch will even send a text message but smart it certainly isn't)

Hey John, that's quite impressive, the only data missing is time spent in the pub. Phil

We use an eTrex, I will check our data next weekend for our summer travels. Broadly similar, we edge you on max speed and I think we did about 50 odd miles and 15 hours more. You can cover some ground out there when you put your mind to it
