The coronavirus thread has sunk so it's a bit late to re-awaken it. Just had a general e-mail in from my unemployment payments organisation:
Last year (2019) on 8th June - 15 new unemployment registrations that day.
This year (2020) on 8th June - 656 new registrations on that day.
Already around 70,000 new registrations/requests for unemployment benefits, since the coronavirus 'lockdown' began.
In May they paid out 75 million Euros - the record ever in their existence. But that remained a short record as for this June out payments will be around 100 million.

Just one question Foxy - do you normally claim unemployment benefit during the summer break? Yes, for the days I have been technically unemployed. If it's good enough for the likes of Victoria Beckham and Richard Branson to claim from the government, it's good enough for me! Bit of a cheek of Richard as he doesn't even pay any tax at all. But 'not during the summer break' - for the past three years the first 5 weeks have been as holiday for which I received holiday pay, thus technically 'during employment'. After those 5 weeks, then yes, as my contract was for 'school days only'. Now I have no contract, job officially terminated. But I am entitled to my job back for 6 months if it re-starts. I was given a 'permanent contract' about 5 years ago (Aug 2015) and normally I would just slip back on the first day of school in August, but we are living in different circumstances with the effects of C-19 with all the drivers (around 400?) laid off when man would be working through Summer (normal routes/charter tours). There is probably work for me in August, drivers are hard to find out this way - and sober ones - every bus has an alcohol lock fitted. Have to dash now - cycling to harbour before the sun sets...
