I'd use it if built. I quite like daventry. Having a fat boat, I would naturally prefer locks to a lift. I usually cycle from the tunnel entrance into town, but would much prefer to take the boat. I would have thought it would be a bonus for boaters, as shopping after weedon bec, and before Leamington spa is scarce.

I hate the place, you can't tell though, can you?
It's an odd idea, build a canal to a less than attractive town - there are plenty of restoration projects that are way more worthy than this, why blow a shed load of money on this?
It's a bit extravagant to say the least.

Unless I've misunderstood something, they haven't said no to it, the story is about the beginning of a consultation about it?

I can only think he is talking about a counsellor who made some comments last year on the subject. Can't remember his name, but did meet him once at a partnership meeting. He hated boats, canals, and thought crt was stupid. ( in my view, he was right on one point ).

Driving to work this morning listening to Radio Noddy, Stuart Linnel announces that at a meeting last night Daventry Town Council have rejected plans for a canal into Northamptonshires post nuclear holocaust model town.
No links I'm afraid, so you will have to take my word for it.

Gutted. I so wanted to visit. There's a bus route from Northampton, Weedon, Braunston, Crick, Bugbrooke, Napton, Lower Shuckborough and Long Buckby to Dav. Once you get to the bright lights of Rugby you probably would be underwhelmed by Daventry tbh.

Local residents seeking signatures for a petition against this development, explained to me that their objections were not 'anti canal' based, but rather that developers would seek to turn a quick profit, building all the proposed housing, but then disappear before completing the infrastructure to go with it (shops, schools, amenities and indeed the canal arm).
Seems a reasonable fear.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-northamptonshire-43911596Wendy Randall, leader of the Labour group, which has three members on the council, said the canal extension scheme was "ludicrous". 'Laughing stock' "The majority of residents don't want it. The town council had a referendum and voted against the plans, but it was dismissed by the district council," she said. "It is a ridiculous idea and we have become a laughing stock." Become? She must be new to the area!
