Apes on the River Lea:
"Hi water lovers I'm just wondering if Broxbourne boat hire actually teach the renters to use locks?? Over the past 3 days Ive seen 6 groups waiting for the lock to fill with all paddles up. Most have been fairly thankfull when I've explained how it wouldn't fill that way apart from the group I just encounterd. I walked past the lock and saw it happening again and politely explained how they should fill it, they just grumbled while one of the men tried to stare me out. One guy then dropped right lower paddle without using windlass and I again friendly explained that this will damage the mechanism at which point the guy on the left did the same telling me to go F myself. I continued my walk to the train station and came across another couple doing exactly the same thing at next lock this time with one gate open. This time however they were thankful for the guidance that the girl struggling to close the lower gate would not be able too with the top paddle open. The guy told me they had had no training. Now I never get moan on this site Infact I hardly write any posts as I'm too busy enjoying my boat but I'm wondering if anything can be done about this, if they keep smashing the paddles they will break, be costly to repair and the locks shut. I wrote an email to the boat hire place when I saw this happening a couple of times 3 days ago and have had no responce, do you think I should write to someone in CRt?"
