Back in 2013, after the ship had technical difficulties and had to dock in the port, port officials deemed the ship that was carrying the ammonium nitrate to be unseaworthy and wouldn't let it leave. The ship owners failed to pay port fees so Lebanese authorities impounded it. In 2014 the cargo was taken off the ship and put into a warehouse where it has resided ever since.

The 'authorities' had been made well aware of this danger for all this time - yet chose to do nothing. Still what does one expect of such places?

Cant quite bring yourself to apologise though can you. A step up too far? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and presume you did so by message.

My mate has been phoned up by his German mate it seems the EU are sending a team out to help with asbestos etc apparently it will take a couple of months to sort out getting the team there!! By which point it will have all been cleared away and new building erected, what a bunch of tossers the EU are Lebanese people need help now not in a couple of months and they are going to leave all the rubble around so that it can be inspected by a bunch of tossers from the EU. I heard on the new that we are sending a hospital ship out and Royal engineers and equipment to help out, this is clearly the right move as any money sent will just end up in officials back pockets and not where its needed

Lebanese people need help now not in a couple of months Err... they've had 5 years to get rid of the explosive compound... and didn't. This one is clearly on their shoulders. Tell me again, how much 'International Aid' have they received in those past 5 years? And what did they do with it? Answers on a postcard...

This must be a great story for conspiracy/reality theorists.
All a bit too convenient ?
Or maybe just a good old fashioned balls up.

Well whatever the truth of the event my heart goes out to the poor people who endured it, as if they haven't suffered enough in the past 10 years and now they have had the rug well and truly yanked from beneath their feet Phil

it was a Russian owned ship. The crew were locked up, had to sell the fuel oil to pay legal fees to get released, the ship later sank in the harbour. I have also heard that elecktrickary work was being carried out just before a fire started, adjacent to a pile of confiscated fireworks in the a same warehouse as the ammonium nitrate. Just letting you know I'm the first to post this info on here, I really must claim the Kudos. No squabbling now. Not that I've read further down the thread yet obvs. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Doncha just love it when you can get a bit of credit from others misfortune.

Doncha just love it when you can get a bit of credit from others misfortune. No-one would read or look at the News if it weren't for murders, disasters, wars and zombies. However, there is a choice to think positive: www.goodnewsnetwork.org/
