Having put off our visit to the middle levels until next year, Iβd best check. Is a special windlass required? We have different types aboard.

Struggling to get hold of the Denver lockie so I can get a rough idea of return times, I have the info from Paul for the outbound trip its just coming back, HT Denver is 12.12 so I guess sometime around then.

They should do a windlass hire scheme like the river Wey does. It was a tenner returnable when you return the windlass.
This assumes you are returning.
I had a dozen windlasses out of the Wey with the magnet one year. I guess they end up keeping a few tenners !

We were thinking of going New Bedford way but he advised against as there have been two sinkings near the bridge at Welney, both grounded then got overrun by the next tide Its slightly shallow and can be seen from the bridge at low tide.

I know π my warped sense of humour didnβt translate to the typed word π I'm surprised that grounding on springs is an issue - there had been a shit load of dredging going on in down the hundred foot. The biggest problem is usually air draft round Welney and Mepal. That said, if the local knowledge is donβt do it then donβt do it! shame though, we have done the 21 odd miles in 3.5 hours, cuts a useful chunk off when heading up river, Ely and the rest you can catch on the way back.

Not sure if the sinkings were on springs or neaps I suspect the end of neaps with a larger tide 12hrs later. I am getting excited, once past Wansford its new to me until I get to Denver, it was my intention to do the ring just because I could and its 9 years since I have. Next year will be the other new bit for me above Huntingdon.
