Starting planning my trip through to Brentford and have a couple of questions.
Ideally I'd like a not very early start but with enough time in hand to do the Hanwell flight before darkness if I choose to go that far up the GU on that day.
Does the above seem sensible to those that know the area?
If so...
How likely am I to get a mooring at the lock the night before? (I'm happy to pay and if all goes to plan will be moving from the Wey to Teddington the day before locking through at Teddington).

Staying on the lock landing above Teddington is usually ok. I tend to leave about 2 hrs before high tide which means you arrive at Brentford at pretty much slack water making the turn easier. If you leave at high tide the river will be starting to run fast as you make your turn. The other advantage is that you may well be first up Hanwell so locks should be in your favour. Only downside is that you may (if its a spring tide) have to wait to get under Brentford bridge.

Sounds like I need to be there at least 3hrs before high tide. Hence hoping to moor there overnight.

They tried telling me years ago that as I was in a narrowboat I had to wait until High Tide, Needless to say I said no I go when I as captain decide, not when they say. Just a thought; If you leave at high tide have a serious engine/anchor failure you end up being swept out towards the North Sea. If you leave a couple of hours before high tide in the event of a failure you end up back at Teddington.

Teddington lock is available all day the lock keeper may advise you but can not tell you when to go.
You go when you choose to go.

I prefer doing it the @loddon way but you will get disapproval from some lock keepers.
