kris and Rog - mine came from a book seller at Cranford Steam Rally for a couple of quid 😁 "I could do some fantastic willy waving with books on the East Anglian waterways - I won't though" Ah, the sort of book you have to read with one hand. Another with "grey" in the title, several shades?

As nobody has asked, I shall.. What is the weight for Stabby? I was going to use it to counterbalance the lifting roof on my new shed but on reflection it's nowhere near heavy enough and if I use anything sufficiently heavy to do the job I think it will probably snap the roof in half, Sam took delivery of the roofing shingles yesterday and they apparently weigh 90kg alone. So I may abandon the lifting roof idea or I may just see if it can be pushed upwards with the boat pole, and I'll just use the weight for general weighy things.

Weighing things down ... Mr Stabby occasionally has 'items to dispose of' discreetly Rog I did consider posting similar sort of comment but then ...u beat me to it.. I've had a busy morning...3x dog walks then into co-op on a stock up mission..enough tins of spaghetti hoops and packets of jaffa cakes(grandsons staple diet here) to keep him going for a month. I just hope he doesn't get fed up with them Didn't buy any flour..I'll leave that for the panic buying bakers...

You can increase the effort by using a double or triple block without hugely increasing the weight of your counterbalance (although not necessarily your recent purchase!) Mechanical advantage 👍

Brake rotors make excellent weights for that sort of thing plus they are stackable.
I had a local "tires and exhausts" place which regularly put old ones outside for anyone who wanted them.
Also used for the base of "industrial" lighting items in posh twat flats.
They make reasonable mud weights as well.
Also I wonder if they might make nice load spreaders for mooring pins. Hammer the pin in down the centre and use a set of smaller pins through the bolt holes.
Might try that actually. For a bit of fun.

Why not just use pistons from a car boot, scrappy will be cheap, one down near Ricoh arena.. No way would they be anywhere near heavy duty enough, a car boot weighs probably 10kg, I anticipate the roof ending up weighing 120kg. Another thing I hate is when ebay advertisers are inaccurate with their despatch descriptions. I ordered an item and it specifically said "discrete packaging" but when I picked it up from the village Post Office it had "WomensStockings4U" stamped on the envelope in large red letters. The Postmistress smirked at me.

I ordered some roofing shingles for it as I think they look better than felt, but they are heavier than I had anticipated.
