What a waste of time and money the dredging at Barton island was. I wonder where all those dredgings are going to end up when the river really floods again this winter? Not a waste of time and money at all, . . and no-one with even the vaguest understanding of how river navigations were maintained and dredged before being reduced to little more than playgrounds for the likes of Windbag the Sailor would think or say otherwise ! The beneficial effect on water levels and run-off rate in the Trent above Barton Island was immediately apparent following the recent rainfall. The question that needs asking is was the river X-section from the top end of the training wall to the low end of the island dredged to the correct profile. Apart from that one slight reservation, which has a bearing on how long it will be before that spot needs attention again, the job appears to me to have been done in a perfectly satisfactory manner. Over the next few times the river rises high enough, most of the dredgings will gradually be carried down to and over Beeston Weir, . . which will be a longer and slower process than it used to be when the (Trent) dredgers worked in company with a minimum of one tug and two drop-hoppers, but the end result will be same, . . and it's the right one. Dredgings from the only three spots in the 5-mile (lowside of Thrumpton Weir, Thrumpton Shoal and Barton Island) that ever needed dredging used to be dumped just topside of Beeston Weir from drop-hoppers, . . which was the first stage of a downriver journey to the nearest dredgings tip - Gunthorpe in this case - with floodwater and the river itself transporting the dredgings in suspension to the next shoaling point, where the process was repeated immediately after the next few significant floods until reaching the shoaling point nearest to the tip. Without any of the correct equipment available for the job, . . and someone who knows how it should be used, . . what alternative was there to what's been done at Barton Island ? Just bumping this up ahead of the toddler's section, again, to make it easier to find for anyone optimistic enough to log on to TB in the expectation of finding something worth contributing to and following !

This is a very immature thread in places... I don't think us ladies of the forum would join in..... .. I wonder if the Female MP's indulge in the cat calling(apologies to moggies) and silly behaviour that u hear n see in the Commons or whether its just a blokey thing.....

I think M.P.'s are a breed apart, whether male or female. I always look upon them in the sense of the satirical lines to The Red Flag. "The working class can kiss my a***, I've got the foreman's job at last." Whatever sex they are, they are nothing but virtue signalling zealots for whatever cause is in vogue. If they had to work in the real world, (very few have had proper jobs producing anything), they would be hopelessly out of their depth. This is illustrated by the number who 'make mistakes' in their claims and expenses for which they are very sorry. They are able to , and do, claim an amount for daily subsistence that exceeds the basic Old Age Pension. They are able to eat in a heavily subsidised restaurant, and you'll probably find that Parliament is the only workplace where you can purchase (heavily subsidised)alcohol.
