considering the amount of oil you waste by changing it every week ..... you should talk Yes but is 15w/40 a fossil fuel? it definately comes from fossilised animals, unless itβs the cheap stuff then itβs old oil recycled. Still from fossilised animals though.

I realise that but is it a fuel?
I suppose you could argue that it is a fuel but it is not usually used as a fuel. It is generally used as a lube oil.
Further down the line someone probably does use it as a fuel but it isn't the person who is putting it in the lube oil filler of their diesel engine.
And I thought it was plant material not just animals.

I haven't changed the oil in our boat since October 2019. Morris 10-40W. The gearbox oil is SAE 30 - also Morris. I expect the year 2020 has seen oil producing countries get to stock up with less consumption. Are you feeling okay?

True waste of fossil fuels more like. Where's peterboat when you need him, eh? considering the amount of oil you waste by changing it every week ..... you should talk Rough estimate for fossil fuels consumed bike = 1l gearbox oil 100ml foam filter oil
20l petrol - practice away from track and fuel for event 400ml two stroke oil for above one pair of tyres van many gallons of diesel setting up track, going to committee meetings, out practicing, collecting bits and bobs etc. time on track? qualifying and practice 3 laps. main event 1hr + 1 lap. Carbon footprint still way smaller than one idiot exile flying over to play at boating - delivering greenhouse gases right where it hurts the most on the big silver bird π§ Scramble enjoyment level? Off the scale πππ»π€π»

Another thought springs to mind -
Foxyβs comment is typical of someone who has done fuck all exciting and different to the norm.
Most of the blokes I work with couldnβt understand how my year revolved around the race calendar - it was beyond comprehension there was life outside shopping, washing the car and football.
Someone asked me why I competed in off-road motorsport, I replied βIt beats decoratingβ completely lost on them!
The feeling of being part of an organised motorsport event is something that only those who have done it can understand - turn it up to 11 When you are part of national events rocking up to towns and villages nationwide, pumping money into the local economy and just occasionally making the specialist motorcycling press ππ
I look back on my time competing on two wheels with great fondness and privilege - one idiot spouting shit from a far away land behind a computer screen will never change that π€π»ππ»

Electric seems ideal for scramblers.
You don't need range as the bike is transported in a van, you need low down flexible power, which electric provides in spades and you want it to be nice and quiet so you can hear the wildlife... What's not to like ?

I still do, most days. This evening I am going to tidy our garage. Says so much!
Now when (if ever) are you walking the Pennine Way!

Now when (if ever) are you walking the Pennine Way!
I would have done it by now this year Sept-Oct-Nov as I expected to be unemployed, but my boss phoned up in August and asked if I'd come to work in Kokkola and I said yes. The Pennine Way will still be there when I get my freedom, and is still on my list of Things To Do. And will be when you die.

No doubt Gazza at some point you will have an electric motorbike Oh for fuck's sake. Why not treat yourself to an electric food blender, Gaz, and put some bananas in it. And some raspberries for extra excitement? Because you have no understanding of anything mechanical I wont waste my time explaining how much torque and electric motorbike has which makes it ideal for motorcross

The thrill of a highly strung two stoke having its neck wrung in between pine trees or on a fire road can never ever be replaced by an electric bike. Mud on hot engine, lungs full of two stroke - you canβt beat it! The noise and smell of a motocross canβt ever be the same when electric powered π© That said, electric mountain bikes are an answer to a problem id never considered - no problems with land access, more is open to you as you can use bridle ways, the ramblers and horsey set donβt get their hackles up quite so quickly; the performance is as good as I now need (officially being an old fart) on tight technical going. The universal problem is always there though - range and the fact batteries are crap, quote James May βthey are either flat or going flat!β

And will be when you die. I could wake up dead tomorrow - who can say? No... when I retire and finally have the constraints of a working life, and all its responsibilities, cast aside, I shall be packing my Hilleberg Akto into a rucksack for The Pennine Way. But I am thinking of enjoying it, and taking maybe 9 weeks over it, as opposed to the rushed 'normal' 3 weeks. Why rush it? Then there's the S.W.Coastpath (500 miles), north-western half of The Dales Way (we did the Ilkley -> Ribblehead bit Summer 2018), Cotswold Way, driving across the USA, driving round NW Scotland, exploring Japan by train (and perhaps bicycle), driving round Slovakia... lots of things on my lists. This narrowboating came along and severely disrupted my life, but, all in all, it has not been an unwelcome distraction. You have been wittering on about the PW ever since I joined TB - I'll eat MM's hat if you do it before I die.
