Yet the army is out helping drive ambulances in S. Wales, the Gov map showing infection rates per 100k had to have a new colour added to cope with the display to recognise over 800 from over 400, within the next couple of days it is likely to need a new colour to recognise over 1600 (some areas are already over 1200).
Yep there is no hope, let the virus rip through and destroy part of the population and not do anything about it.
If that is what happens I hope you don't have to watch too many people die without medical aid.

Well to be fair, we don't have the figures for December 2020 yet to compare. We'll have to wait and see.

Another interesting NHS stat for November is that the total number of A&E attendances was by far the lowest for November over the last 5 years. www.england.nhs.uk/statistics/statistical-work-areas/ae-waiting-times-and-activity/Now our government have yet again today demoralised us at a key moment of hope, I can't see my 100 year old mum, my kids, my grandchildren. Yet a teacher can mix with 30 kids from different families, an office worker can mix with several collegues from different families, and bring the virus back to grandad or grandma. Sorry I'm now thinking this is bollocks. It's all about taking away our freedom and hope. On the A&E thing, isn’t that because these days you can’t just pitch up at A&E, you have to go through some telephone triage system first? So many of the time wasters with a cut finger etc, will be passed back to their GP. As to the rest, very frustrating, yes. But the view is that children missing education creates long term damage to their futures, whereas you have been able to see your mum as much as you want for the past 60-odd years, and whilst you would like to be able to see her this year, that you can’t isn’t the end of the world. Would you rather see her at Christmas and kill her, or not see her for a month (until the vaccine kicks in) and then have several more years of her company? If it is a great conspiracy to take away your freedom and hope, then it really is a huge one with nearly all the world’s governments colluding together! On your first point, as far as I'm aware anyone can still roll up at A&E, if you are lucky enough to get a lift from someone. I think you missed my second point, which is that if this is all about reducing the load on the NHS, how does kids and office workers bringing back the virus to granny and grandad (or mum and dad) help? On the 3rd point, it's up to me and my mum to decide whether to take that risk, not Hancock. Anyway, you and your mum seem to be prepared to take that risk! On the conspiricy thing, I prefer the truth, but the word conspiricy seems to be overused by those who can't prove otherwise.

It is conceivable that this new strain of Covid-19 couid overwhelm the NHS, after all, we don't know much about it. That's why I said we'll have to wait and see. Fair play if you are actively helping out with the effort in a practical way.

On the conspiricy thing, I prefer the truth, but the word conspiricy seems to be overused by those who can't prove otherwise. On your second point, the whole thing is a compromise, there is no black and white, no right and wrong. If the only aim was to protect the NHS and minimise the spread of the virus, then of course all schools and businesses would be closed. But that aim clashes with the education of future adults and the preservation of as much of the economy as we can. So it has to be a compromise, we have to look at risk/benefit. The “risk” of you not seeing your mum for a while is relatively low, the benefit is that the spread of the virus to vulnerable people is reduced. On you third point, it would only be your decision if you agreed in advance that if you or she got the virus badly, you would just die quietly at home and not expect any medical treatment. But that isn’t really compatible with our current societal values and that is why it is not your decision - because you making the wrong decision has a potentially massive impact on other people. Oh and FYI, whilst we had been planning to spend Christmas Day with my mother, that is no longe happening. She is of course stoic, far worse things have happened in her lifetime than missing one Christmas with her children - like her brother being killed in WW2.

Use the map (bottom right, takes a while to load) to track the spread, it's likely you will be worried after a few days.

"If the aim (of all these measures) was to protect the NHS" ... what other aim(s) could there be then? Anyone who can't see other agendas have been pushed through off the back of Covid need their eyes and ears testing. I'm with you on the rest but I also need to vent sometimes. One thing I have taken from my mum and Chris's mum is how much worse things were in WW2. I just hope that war wasn't fought in vain.

even more concerning is the new mutation in South Africa ...... not only a high virus load making it easy to catch (like the mutation in the South of England) but apparently they believe it to be higher risk for younger people

I think yours is more effective at isolation though.

Keep safe, look after those you can x
