Tomorrow marks the 39th anniversary of the Penlee lifeboat disaster
If anyone (apart from the idiot fox who is beyond all hope) isn’t aware or has any doubts as to the bravery of the RNLI boys and girls, watch this.
The last radio transmission from the Solomon Browne - gulp!

See my post in "When does Foxy's plane land" Your comments have no place in this thread - it is a thread to remember those lost in the penlee tragedy

Extraordinarily moving film telling a staggering story of true bravery.
If you have the data, it is well worth watching.

I had good friends who always holidayed in Mousehole every year and had done for two generations. Even though the family were from London they were well looked after by the locals and my friends (who were my age - about 15) would come back with tales of being taken out on the lifeboat and being allowed into the pub!
Can remember how devastated they were when the news broke.
Second last time I saw them (last was at my Dad's funeral) I was sitting in a pub in Mousehole minding my own business watching the world go by when some bloke came up to me and said "Your sitting in Dad's chair", I started to get up and apologise before being told to squish up and let us in Andy - a moment of confusion and I realised it was my old friends from 20 or so years ago! Down on holiday to catch up with some of the locals and to lay flowers at the memorial.
Just a small personal link to the tragedy, but the lasting impression I always had from the tales I was told was of a community that cared about each other and others visiting by water or road and how the community rallied round in times of need. Bit of a difference from living in the sprawling suburbs of London.
I always put a bit in the RNLI tin (probably because of these memories).

The guy I bought my house off is the coxswain on the lifeboat in Barmouth. No vacancies at the moment but if one crops up before I'm too old, my name's on the list.

It is the second sentence in my comment in the other post that is relevant. The guys and girls at the coal face do a wonderful job.

When I see stories like this I find it quite humbling and makes me feel a bit inadequate typing crap on a forum. It always seems to be those on the front line who do most of the caring and good work.
I'm sure some management is needed in charities but it's those on the front line who put their lives on the line. I just wish the focus and financial help went more to them and less on marketing and politics.

Fair play to you - considering all that has gone on this year - this is probably one of the standout posts to the forum. Massive respect to you ✊

A hard read indeed Gazza
In my many years of seafaring I have on three occasions been a witness to their work helping others and on another three occasions the recipient of their assistance.
When the shit is happening and that orange shape appears .......... I am in awe of their bravery and skill.

Wasn't going to mention this but somehow feel a need to.
Six of the eight crew were ex Boy's Brigade members, which links into how I knew the friends I spoke about earlier and also why they were at my Dad's funeral.
Was just going to post this from Gazza's link
But thought I'd post this as well - the BB hymn.
