Can I go out on my boat for a cruise?
All navigation in Tier 4 areas in England, and in Wales, should be limited to essential use only. Boaters who are not currently occupying their boat should not take short overnight breaks on their boat during the period. Those living aboard are advised to limit their navigation, moving only a minimal amount to access essential facilities or services when necessary. Please moor considerately.
Boat licence terms & conditions regarding moving every 14 days will be suspended in Tier 4 and Wales until the restrictions come to an end. If you have any questions, please contact your licence support officer.
Navigations will be open, subject to the ongoing government guidance. Boaters can stay overnight on their boats and take extended cruises in Tier 1 and 2 areas. In Tier 3, overnight stays outside of the local area are advised against, unless necessary for work or education etc. We would also strongly advise against travelling to or from your boat in Tier 3 areas.

All is confusion, I just loked at the CRT Notices section, on "Update 4th /Nov" 'navigation by boats "essential travel only", as I can access all services where I am, I don't need to travel, but CRT sent out "spotters", and asked cc boaters to move from early Dec. , so why is "update 4 th Nov " still on the site? I suspect that boaters, cc, in Tier4 will either move within their area, and cc just like myself in T3, or not, just how essential is moving every 14 days, it was not essential in March, but now it is? A week ago a passing boater moving his boat asked CRT if he could move for maintenance, I assumed he thought that was "essential", but might not be ...... I assumed he was being a bit 'fussy' for want of a better word, but it seems he must have read the CRT website, while I had not, I thought boats could navigate as long as they did not move from a T3 to a T2. It's not that I don't want to move, it's that I don't want to move from a safe place with CRT and personal services organised, to a place with CRT services but a cluster of boats, and therefore people, which is the only option, as far as I can tell, but that's only going to be OK for 14 days, by which time I'm running out of diesel, and have to find new "services", I suppose that I can visit CRT "services', for a brief time, but there are not many winding holes or moorings. I feel as though I am in limbo, how long is this going on for? I assum

The problem with CRT is the abhorrent lack of communication skills, and inter department communication. One department tells you to move only if necessary, the other sends out passive aggressive communications telling you to move or suffer at re-licensing. piss up and brewery.

I am not sure that CRT are getting answers from HMG, since there won't be meetings to discuss this niche situation, so maybe CRT are just interpreting, they then cover themselves with sending out messages which some will feel obliged to obey, while others feel obliged to interpret for themselves. Either way they really can' t be doing anything other than monitoring problem boaters, so they know what is going on ,maybe sending out spotters was at a time whem the cc situation was normal then the goalposts moved again. I'd assume T4 are more restricted than T3, but I'm not sure.

So I think they should be clear and consistent in their ’advice’, which they should be eg current, getting rid of the old stuff.

FWIW, Go for a cruise... apply common sense... wear glove's/dont cough in anyones general direction and wash your hands frequently - perhaps singing "we wish you a merry christmas" - perhaps twice whilst doing so... in short, you probably won't do anyone any harm OR come to any harm yourself.
Your get out of jail card is challenged is that you have an electrical fault and your split charge relay won't work properly to charge your batteries to keep your fridge running and thus not poison you unless your engine is under strain -hence the need to move for 4-5 hours a day. Bingo.
Merry Christmas

Bad boy. My problem is not that I can't cruise, it's that I am near the "end of navigationon on this canal", I would have to re locate from this T3 so if I do leave A after bunkering, I motor to B, stay for five days, I then have to turn round 180 degrees, stop o'night at A for services, motor past A, on to C, then 180 degrees back to A, arrange more bunkering, hope that I can leave my T3, and move to a different T3. Easier to shuffle, or just hide out in the sticks. I need to keep fuel topped up, and that takes some organising. It's navigating, but not as I imagined, which was travelling.

PS seems there is another stoppage ahead!

I've bought a new kind of bread, Hovis, it's high fibre , I'm restricting my intake, for obvious reasons, things are bad enough! Back on subject, I looked at Govt guidelines Tier 3, it could not be could not be much clearer " stay in your village, town, or part of your city" other than for work, etc. And .. I've been out to put on extra mooring ropes etc, it's blowing old boots.
