The reason isn’t profit driven - it is most likely because there is barely anyone who knows what they are on about to keep things heading in the correct direction. once you loose the staff that know what they are talking about the organisation becomes rudderless - I have a damming document published espousing the benefits of leaving the river to its own devices; written by those that have no practical or real world experience of what the river actually does in times of flood - published entirely relying on computer modelling and once in 100 data. All well and good on paper. Sadly, much like Rugby a game which cant be played on paper either - Mother Nature has a habit of making people who rely on crap like that look the fools they are. You are much less of a cynic than me if you believe this is not profit driven. Incompetence is a nice cover story anyway. There is no money in the Nene. You tell me what the reason is for the failings here.

My father worked for the NBC brewery and he said that they used to have boats delivering to them up the west bridge branch. I also remember that they had a trip boat but can’t recall the name. It was really the play thing of one of the directors Leiut commander Bell who lived at Blisworth arm end. In a big flood before the war father used to tell the tale of paddling along St Leonard’s road in a big flood and fish floating out of the fish shop. The Nene catchment board carried out all the big works after the 1948 floods. I have thought for a long while that the management should be more locally controlled and therefore more responsible to the local population and not some remote central body like the EA

BTFC always have a waterlogged pitch but I bet its well under water now. By brother lives there for years but moved a few miles south to steeple Claydon. We quite like visiting the area. Amazed to read that - what a small world - my oldest friend lives there ........ Merry Christmas to you and yours and hope they all stay safe x eta - should have said Steeple Claydon - not the football ground! Its a nice village. I have happy memories of going to phoenixbury there. I suspect they know him as he is quite well known being a postman. His lovely wife has I think, always lived there.

I presume Mike took his wide bean down there by road. Doesn't seem the ideal boat for an East coast trip.

Yes those Liverpool sheds must be a real nuisance on a nice river like the Nene.
They are annoying enough on the Thames but this is a lot larger.
There a hell of a lot of them about and numbers increasing.

I'm amused at Billing Aquadrome's arse covering attempts at every opportunity to stress "holiday" "go home to residential address" etc. I wonder how many are in reality in no position to do so because they live there unofficially and have nowhere to go.

As I understand it every inmate has to sod off for a little while - it’s part of the agreement, usually it’s off to the Costa del grot for the grim bit between beginning of January and end of February; but because Christmas and Covid that looks less likely at the moment. loads of cockney rejects love it there - me? I can’t see the fascination; surrounded by a flooding river, a massive sewage farm, a decent sized industrial estate and the A45. Still, Wouldn’t pay for us to all like the same things!
