A bit late for the Middlewich Branch and Todbrook. Wasn't there mention of Badgers @ Middlewich. Is the vole that posed for the shot nailed down or glued, what's your preference naughtyfox?

Looks to me like it is tied down with its tail.
As I understand it the K&A restoration was heavily influenced by water voles preservationists and one of the outcomes was canal banks which are not suitable for mooring against because the piling is driven to below the waterline with a natural habitat area above it. Good for voles not good for boats.
What do we want. Voles or boats?

Well, maybe the latter one, but their poops are tiny.

I agree with that in terms of the K&A but then the K&A is a completely pointless canal anyway.
However it looks like these new vole friendly measures are going to be introduced on the grand Union (Northamptonshire).
Unlike the K&A the GU is part of a pleasant cruising area so if this results in a reduction of available moorings it could have a negative influence.
Not been up there recently but I don't think Northants has been infested with rat boats in the same way as the K&A.
Maybe it has, in the last ten years.
