Has anyone seen the CRT auto renew process work successfully? I have tended to go through the manual 'renew' process which works fine. When you go through the manual process it won't let you proceed without updating the BSC and insurance info. Depending on your payment method your bank may have to go through a verification process before the transaction can be accepted. So, in theory, how can the Auto Renew process work without going through the same manual steps? Or perhaps it doesn't?

So do you update your BSC and insurance policy details (new date) on-line before it auto renews? I can see that working, provided you don't need to intervene during the payment process (maybe that's not a problem either if you pay by Direct Debit).

Yes, update pre renewal, you should get an email before the date telling you what to do.

As CRT send out a reminder that your BSC need renewing they obviously know. Presumably most (all?) Insurance companies will also have a database of insured vessels where they may have access. After all you don't need to advise DVLA re insurance/MOT

I'm guessing I need to stick to the manual renew process unless I switch to Direct Debit. I'm not overkeen on automatic payments anyway, that's why I have a PAYG phone! BTW, I'm not sure whether CRT can link into the boat insurance database yet , interesting question, is there a national integrated boat insurance database?

No such database exists. This is one of the contentious issues in the new T&C's proposals. CaRT want access to insurance information direct from the insurers.

No, unlike cars there is no national boat insurance database.

This is one of the contentious issues in the new T&C's proposals. CaRT want access to insurance information direct from the insurers. Would it be a problem if they did have access? At least they would be able to advise boaters whether the policy meets their 'legal' requirements. Mind you, I suppose they could just issue a list of 'approved' 3rd party insurance policies each year. I think it would be unfair to expect all boaters to check through all of the available policies to see if it met CRT 3rd party insurance requirememts.
