Just been running round trying to find an earth fault on Sabina H ..........switched of all the breakers.....still POP! .......Dammit ! neutral earth fault always a bugger to find. Started the routine.....disconnect each neutral one at a time and measure to earth........needless to say the last circuit !!! I thought "funny.....kitchen sockets?"
Then it struck me.....PILLOCK !!!......what is the first thing I tell people to do when I get that phone call ?........"Go round and unplug everything !!!" DOH !!! Kettle had gone neutral/earth short, I hadn't realised it had happened, I had done my usual trick of thinking "I'll have a cuppa" and then going off, forgetting all about it. All my lighting and heating automatically goes to inverter if the mains fails so I had remained blissfully unaware until I noticed the notifications on the laptop.
Now I know I have got a spare kettle......but can I find the damn thing ? ........I've just grabbed the whistling kettle from the stove and stuck it on the hob so at least I can have a cuppa before heading for the camping shop for a 1 Kw kettle

Recently I have been looking at some Youtube videos about multi-meters in the hope that I get a grip as to how our boat wiring is set up, and I thought this video was entertaining. 52 minutes long:

Happened to me when the electric tripped a while ago now. Reset it just thinking I had overloaded it. Wasn't till weeks after when I noticed my washing wasn't getting as clean as normal. Suddenly realised the heating element had blown, hence the original trip, and been washing stuff in cold water. Those adverts for soap powder that clean at low temperatures ain't true :-)

That's another situation that merits the word "bugger" Yamyam :-)

That's another situation that merits the word "bugger" Yamyam :-) Ha ha, was thinking of something a bit stronger than that johnv esp the job of replacing the bloody element which has turned into several manyanas at the moment :-)

Yes I understand that is not a job for the faint hearted......I have been told it is essential to buy a new rubber gasket for the element as the original hardens and gets covered in scale and wont reseal properly

I think I would just use hot water from the Tap rather than go through the pain
