I rather vomit inducingly accidentally tapped the thumbs up for that post. It was not meant. Apologies to all concerned I really feel for you enormously. Telemachus is exhibiting symptoms of his particular type of schooling I feel. Back in the box!

Yes, of course there is 'conspiracy nutter' stuff going around - I certainly do not associate myself with the insane. My basic stance is that a lot of fuss has been made over nothing - but then you yourself believe that 'Covid' is a real threat. I see the lockdowns and restrictions to people's freedoms and mental health being of more of an issue - not a threat, as it has already happened. Do you not see the damage that has been done? I would have let the virus get on with whatever it was going to do, treat people who got it properly, and have let the rest of society carry on as normal. Where are the new hospitals Boris promised? Of course, there are the merchants of doom - JohnV for example - who claims the hospitals would have been overwhelmed and everybody in the country would have died horribly. That's just another 'conspiracy theory'. Whatever - the whole country is buggered now thanks to all those who panicked, and you have your third jabs to look forward to. And children to be injected starting next week with absolutely no long-term data on how this will affect them. I think it is thoroughly depressing to go into a supermarket and see everyone wearing face masks. I think it is sick and twisted and the whole country is suffering from a delusion. But there you go, welcome to your 'New Normal'. Yes I see the damage that has been done. The question people with your line of thinking don’t consider is “would the damage have been better or worse if no action had been taken? Also worth bearing in mind that nearly every vaguely functional government worldwide has followed a similar path. Sweden's approach seems to be more vindicated every day... fee.org/articles/daily-covid-deaths-in-sweden-hit-zero-as-other-nations-brace-for-more-lockdowns/Of course, we haven't even begun paying the economic price yet.

the starting point being that the NHS barely coped even before covid came along. There was very little slack in the system. I So masses and masses of ventilators and beds were installed in vast emergency hospitals. Were these used ? I can't remember. Finally I can claim that someone I once met died of Covid after being on a ventilator. She was an old lady who owned the bizarre pikey caravan site / boatyard on the River lea called Kecksy's Farm. She was in her 70s and not the epitome of elf anyway but still sad when someone dies. It seems to me that all those extra beds and ventilators might have actually dealt with things if the herd immunity was allowed. But the scientists said no and that we must have lockdowns. One day there will be an inquiry into all this and it will be interesting.

Of course, we haven't even begun paying the economic price yet. My kids have UK, French and Moroccan passports. France is fucked, UK looking pretty fucked so I am wondering if they might go to a reasonably worthwhile country with nice weather and cheap houses.

Please naughtyfox take note ... yesterday we went to the launderette, the pub, McD's, and B&M (even though there's no B&M in Rugby trademark Mr Stabby) and no masks were worn by anyone ... and in fact all the covid signage at the launderette has now been removed. Today I've been to Tesco garage, and Jane's been to Aldi ... no masks required, although Jane noticed a couple of the Aldi staff wore masks. We're going to Tesco's store shortly and I'll let you know the situation ... but the reality we see at the moment, is in the UK most people are moving on. Please stop telling me "people are wearing face masks- prove me wrong" Rog

From what I have read on your three threads, the above is a pack of lies, you certainly do associate yourself with the loony brigade. And as Nemesis says, how would you know what a UK supermarket looks like since Covid, when was the last time you visited a Uk supermarket or in fact the Uk, nearly two years ago? You really have no idea, do you? Yes, people are still wearing face masks in supermarkets - I'd ask you to prove me wrong, but I know you can't. I also know you wear a face mask when you go shopping. Will you be having buttered scones for tea? Well old chap, it would appear I have more of an idea than your good self on the subject what with being a UK resident and shopping weekly! No face mask has been worn by me for three weeks now, and the number of shoppers wearing them is decreasing each week I visit the supermarket, not really sure how you would argue this to be honest, being a refugee! Stay in your lane old chap.

Not in pubs though, you're free to go 'bareback' in these. Everyone close, hollering to be heard, that type of thing.

Please stop telling me "people are wearing face masks- prove me wrong" edit February 2022: people still wear face masks in the UK in February 2022. people in the UK have had their 3rd 'booster' shots - and many then got Covid as a result. And this is "moving on"... apparently! Looks like I was right again, and dogless wrong (again).

Whilst the decision at first seems perverse - Supermarkets can't be avoided for some, especially the elderly and most at risk who don't know how to order online, pubs are different in that you have a real choice whether to visit.
Currently I still wear a mask when in a supermarket or on public transport - my choice in most cases. Public transport because it so far has been mainly used by oap's who are all wearing masks.

Currently I still wear a mask when in a supermarket because I am scared others will disapprove if I don't. Also, I might get Covid, which is why I also wear rubber gloves to the shops and wipe down all purchases with disinfectant when I get home.
Yes, I know, it's not your choice. You wear a face mask because you have been told to, and you daren't take it off for all the evil glances and tut-tuttings you will get. Still get used to it, because this is forever now.

It's not your choice. You wear a face mask because you have been told to, and you daren't take it off for all the evil glances and tut-tuttings you will get. You didn't wear a face mask two years ago because of wanting to "protect others" from catching the 'flu. So why now? Oh yes, Covid is that much more infectious and deadly.... and there is 'Long Covid'.... Never mind the bacterial and fungal lung infections you'll get from having the same mask over your nose and mouth. Because.... 'Science'. It is my choice. And one I essentially make out of my view is what is polite. Nothing legal or forced or because I've been told to or scared about reactions if I don't (others don't wear one and don't get evil tuttings etc.).
My choice
ETA - I still say thanks to the bus driver if I exit the bus by the only front doors. My choice to do so.

I am no longer wearing a mask. I went into a barbers the other day and the woman asked me to put one on before she would cut my hair. I said I didn't have one and she suggested I go buy one... instead, I said "no thanks - I'll go to another barbers then as there are plenty in stone"... and did just that. Had a lovely chat with a Turkish chap who set fire to the hair in my ears about the mother of his baby and insane family from Kurdistan.
Very interesting actually. Turned out he was wearing a tag too!
Takes all sorts and yet I still tested negative this morning (punters arriving shortly)
the Uk IS moving on nicely .

So you tell us a barber refused to cut your hair unless you wore a mask. And that you 'tested negative' this morning. And you think this is 'moving on nicely'? You do not explain what a 'tag' is. Was your Turkish chap an escaped convict? Ankle tag?

At most 1 in 15 to 20 people were wearing a mask in Tesco ... difficult to be totally accurate as customers change constantly and I didn't do a head count.
A couple of staff were wearing masks, but they were in the minority ... it looks like it's their choice whether to or not.
I can only speak for where I am and what I see ... but the majority seem to have moved on.
