On my route to a job this last week in a very rural bit of Lancashire, Ive noticed a proliferation of mole hills. Now this morning in the road, was what appeared to be a dead mole, it was certainly mole shaped and had classic βmoleyβ shaped digging feet, only this bastard was as big as a normal sized cat! It definitely wasn't a badger, which I first thought as it was all black, wasn't big enough and it 100% had massive moley type feet!
My question...Since lockdown, is there now a βsuper moleβ breed on the loose?
I was hoping to stop on the way home for a closer look and take maybe some pictures but it was gone, whether it had recovered and scarpered or collected by a traveller as roadkill who knows?π±
WTF could it of been?

I thought, as I hastily locked my van doors as apparently they can kill a human, it could possibly have been a fully grown Honey badger, but upon researching realised it would have be a bit out of its βcomfort zoneβ burrowing in Rossendale, plus it didn't have the Honey badgers distinctive white topcoat! π

Mink? Moles are on the rise due to the waterlogged ground.

Is a mole edible? Do remember mums dogs digging them out but because they stank they wouldn't kill them

Otter?
I had one run across a road in front of me once.
Probably Mink though from your description.

A lot of mustelids can be confused. Eg the confusion between stoats and weasels. While one is weasily distinguished the other is stoatally different. I think it would have been a Mink too.
